p.1 #1 · Lightroom 2 and Wacom Tablets

I'm looking into purchasing a wacom tablet, but primarily use Lightroom 2. Is anyone using a tablet with LR2 and if so, how well is it working?
Thanks0

I use a Wacom with LR 1.4 and CS3, works great. I use it more with CS than LR. No reason it shouldn't work with LR 2, it's just a different mouse. I plan on upgrading LR and look forward to the Wacom with the new brushes.

I use a Wacom Intuos with my Win XP Pro main computer that I process with and a Bamboo on my Vista laptop----both with Lightroom. It works fine but brush pressure is not available in Lightroom (and the only place this would work anyhow is with the brush tool). I've used a pen for so long that I use it for almost everything so I didn't even think about it. I've used the Wacoms for both 1.4 and 2.0 (as well as PSCS3).

I haven't upgraded to LR 2 yet but I do have a Wacom tablet and never really felt the urge to use it in LR 1.

Someone mentioned brushes - And the new brushes in LR 2 is one of the reasons I'm going to upgrade and hopefully give CS3 a little rest. But if the pressure sensitivity does not work in LR2 what would be the benefits or advantages using a tablet in LR 2? - Am I missing something very obvious? If so it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Or was this actually just another part of Adobe's dark master marketing plan..........

Oh no .... I smell a new upgrade ... LR 3 offers the new feature of brush sensitivity when using a graphics tablet!

It's quite true there are no capabilities for pressure sensitivity in LR2, but there was quite a gap from the introduction of brushes until sensitivity functionality came about in PS as well. Keep in mind, LR's Develop Module is a RAW converter mostly and PS is a pixel editing program. Quite a difference in coding, I'm sure. With LR being coded from the ground up, there will be some growing pains. I think the app has made great strides in a very short period of time.

I find the localized adjustments in LR to be a very welcome addition as well as the gradient filter. I will gladly pony up a few bucks more when brush sensitivity comes along as well. Just as I did with PS. Rome wasn't built in a day and all that ....

To be honest using a mouse, once you use a tablet for everything, is like using a rock to draw after you've used a pencil.
Yes I even use it for gaming, except for FPS, and it's way easier and better for the hand in general.

I've used a mouse for LR and it was a little awkward to drag those sliders all the time with it, especially fine-tuning.
Also some tablets have those extra buttons you can custom program per application, As well as the touch strips which are used for scrolling.
Nothing I hate more in LR than to drag the slider with a mouse/tablet and end up clicking the arrow that expands or hides the tab. With tablet touch strip just put your cursor over area you want to scroll and use your finger

yes, I'm new to the whole tablet thing- I may just try out the Bamboo and see if I like it.
Thanks all.

It's set to default 'Auto Scroll/Zoom', 'Medium' speed. Seems to work pretty well for me.
Latest vista 64 bit drivers from wacom.

I only use a Wacom tablet for PS. For the rest, my mouse is much faster.

You can set it in your Wacom tablet preferences in the start/settings/control panel. on a PC.

visanic: if you can afford your tablet buy one
do not buy a large one: now i use a 6x11 intuous3 and i map/use around 70% from surface area - i try to move my hand as little as i can
using a pen is more natural from our hands
move you hand from elbow and not from wrist, the wrist is more fragile and you can develop rsi from that move
i do not know about bamboos but intuotus series have programable buttons on tablet and you can customize the middle click button also, check the shortcuts from my cs3/lr

i fix it
i map touch strip to keystrokes to up/down keys
only if my pen have 2 more buttons to alter to shift/alt +up/down - i can not use both my index and middle fingers to press
