p.1 #1 · Canon distance focus in EXIF files

I'm using 2x Canon 40d and a 20d, combined with 70-200 f:2.8L, 24-105L, 85 f:1.8 and tamron 17-50 f:2.8

None of those lenses seems to store the focusing distance in the RAW files. Using DXO it forces me to "guess" the distance on each file.

I looked in the Canon bodies menus, and nothing allows to switch the focusing distance option ....

or is the distance not included in the metadata at all ? However the distance is used to compute the 580DXII ETTL so ....

if somebody can give me some explanation

If autofocus was used, the active autofocus point is recorded in the raw file.

Distance, to my knowledge, is not recorded.

There is a field called "SubjectDistance", but most cameras do not write it.

The really annoying part is that the Canon P&S cameras record the shooting distance while the up-market DSLRs do not. To make matters worse, the camera already knows the focus distance.
