Voting for this assignment is now open!

Being able to evaluate and critique a photo with your vote is an important part of the process. Here is your opportunity to vote for the photo entries posted for this assignment.

All submissions have been arranged as thumbnails below. They are presented in the order in which they were submitted.
The thumbnails are a convenient way to compare all entries side by side. Once you click on a image you will be taken to the original post and there you can see it in its full size. Once you see the full size image, just click on the rating (vote) you would like to give to the photo. (Located on the top right corner of the original post)
The voting options are: 'Good', 'Great' or 'Superb'.
The winners will be automatically calculated based on the rating they receive.
'Good' carries the least weight and 'Superb' carries the most.

BTW: To vote for an image you must first open the original post by either clicking on any thumbnail below or by browsing the topics from the forum.

Please try to rate as many images as you can. If you don't have time, make sure to at least vote for your favorites. Your vote is confidential. If you vote for an image and change your mind before the voting closes, you may edit your vote. You are not allowed to vote for yourself.

Voting for WA 305 will end when the next contest starts, and the top 10 winners will be posted.

Fred, I see only one "problem" with the new rating system. We can't see the overall ranking. Is this intentional?

Also, may I request that in each row there will only be 3 thumbnails and not 4? Using my favorite resolution - 768/1024 - I need to scroll left and right.

Excellent Fred! I am unclear on how long we have to rate the photos each week. Is it - we rate a week - then the voting begins? I'll find out anyway. Come on, pick a pseudonym and join in!

Hi Yakim,
That is how it was designed to avoid bias and keep the results private until the end of the voting process. Therefore, members can only view or edit their 'own rating'.

The voting process lasts the entire current assignment deadline. So for the weekly assignment we have about a week to cast/edit our votes. (After the voting session is finished, the top ten winners will be posted).
The first, second and third winners will be added to the Assignments Gallery (Still in beta) - it can already be seen here but it's not finished yet. (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/viewwinners.php)
The winner (first place) will be added to the site's front page. The entire process is automated.

The voting process will last about 7 days for the Weekly assignment and 30 days for the Monthly assignment. So, take your time.

BTW: Subject links from topics (entries) that you have 'already voted' will turn "gray" in the topics page. (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/26)
That will help us visualize which images you have already voted for. We may add that to the thumbs voting page. (this page)

I'm still unclear on how the voting system is tabulated...

I understand there is a good great superb rating system. Is there a point system that adds them up? Does 3 goods equal a great for example. If I deem an image "good" is that a higher rating than a no vote? I may not want to click and vote on every image.

I would rather see the photos listed as before. I would also prefer to only vote for the top three. And I would rather vote for Good, Very Good, and Great or 3rd Place, 2nd Place, and 1st Place, or maybe Bronze, Silver, and Gold. We could then click on each of the top three to register our votes. Maybe an Honorable Mention for fourth place. Thanks.

The points are added this way:

Good: 1 point
Great: 3 points
Superb: 5 points

No vote: 0 points...

At the end of the voting cycle, we will all see the winners and their respective points. Right now, only the board moderator follow the current results. We are getting a lot of votes! Thanks for participating.

What about removing a vote? If I clicked on a vote but didn't want to, in the long-run, I don't see that I can remove my vote.

Is it possible or am I missing something?

Once casted, you can't remove your vote but you may modify its rating until the end of the voting cycle.

If I may point out a possible problem. Let us say a user starts rating photo's with the intention of rating them all. Part way in, running a bit short on time, they might just short cut to their favorites. Since the rating scheme is a bit back-and-forth pages, this can happen pretty easily. Since the photo's seem presented in a fixed order, this will cause the beginning photos to get more ratings (even if just "good') then the later ones.

Two quick solutons: (1) Let one vote on them all at once, streamlining the process significantly. Or, let one do next/next/next kind of thing. (2) Randomize the order

I'm not being critical here; I really appreciate the hard work and thought gone into it. Just trying to contribute.

Edit: Where "quick" is off the top of my head, not necessarily the effort for implementation.

Ok, I hate to be this guy but I have to ask...I guess it never hurts to ask :-)

As a relative newbie to the WA board, I found it as great feedback on the creative process to go through WA submission, selection process (top 10 or not), and then see the number of votes unweighted (either you got it or not) compared to the others in the ranking. Even if you ended up 10th out of 40, you had feedback in the form of a percentage of votes, and the vote meant something as the person could only vote once.

With the new process, we can cast a "great" vote to several images with much more weight than before, and really stack the rankings. Would anyone else find benefit in seeing a "stack ranking" for all involved, or am I missing the point...

Myself I think I would rather a board of say five people from the forums owner and let them decide on the pictures who's is best and so forth, the way it is now I think if you have enough friends on the forum that you could potentialy pick your winner, I see this in photography magazines they let the public choose the winners public choice award , If your a well known photographer than who do you think will get the most votes, no one goes to the trouble looking at 5000 pictures , so I see nothing there to give a new photograher even advantage, except no one knowing the photographer till its over then maybe new or pro gets the same treatment.

Im sixty now and I only have to please myself , if I like something I've done whether others do or not shouldn't make a difference but sharing ideas and technics still helps me strive to do better and I hope my sharing my photo's gives others at least some different ways to experiment with. So what im trying to say is nomatter who chooses or who votes is it really equal knowing who the photographer is, you decide.
