i hope that we'll see a 40D successor out this sept., only so that if/when i'm ready to buy it in a year or so, the price will have come down a few hundo, and the initial system bugs will have been smoothed out.

until then, nothing wrong with the "ancient" 40D and even more archaic 5D. great cameras for the skrilla.

Unfortunately, Tetris is being saved for the 60D. The 50D only comes with Pong.

I don't think those specs look pathetic at all, they look like good progression to me, we all want a huge leap forwards but they still need to make money however annoying that is for us.

I have no idea if a new 50D will be launched or not, but I was just looking at this price match site in the UK and it shows how the prices has been moving, note the big drop off in price relatively recently and the constant downward trend, time for a change a new product maybe

It's looking more likely than not, 50D is coming with 15MP yet much better high ISO than 40D, which if true would be a remarkable advance. G10 coming with 28mm WA lens. 50D announced within the week but 5D not until Photokina - apparently they want to surprise us.

I tell you the spec of the 5D II has to be absolutely mind blowing if they want (positive) surprises.
Maybe they mean it'll be so mediocre that we'll all be surprised Canon even bothered?

I don´t believe the above for several reasons:

Again Canon playing the "incremental model" and also in the pixel war ??

An APS-C sensor with 15 Mpx ... whats about noise, AA filter, resolution with the actual lenses ?? I would expect IQ problems ...

If a 1D MkIII with 2x Digit III can handle just in the edge a 10,1 Mpx sensor at 10 fps; how a body with only one Digit III and 15 Mpx can shot at 6,5 fps

Is going Canon to renew a model breaking the 18 month life cycle??

Well already Sony and Pentax/Samsung over 14.2 and 14.6MP DX sensors, so Canon going to 15MP isn't a stretch. Also I don't think Canon would release such a sensor if IQ and noise were inferior to previous generation.

Still it's a massive jump from 10MP and I'd be thinking 12.2MP was more likely. Frankly I don't care what the MP count is as long as the AF is drastically improved in Servo and has better coverage.

Yeah way! The face detection statement should act like Bullshitt detections.

Some of you have come close to the specs though. Remember Nikon and Sony are going to reveal their top tier full frames for which the main components (read sensor) specs have already been announced more than a year ago. You think Canon has been doing nothing but implementing face detection and a few more pixels? This show Photokina is not going to be for Canon like some years before when they showed their technological leadership in the D-SLR segment. I am sure we are gonna see I will switch Sony now posts or finally I took the plunge and went Nikon. But still most of us are not willing to take the big step and dump our glass because Canon are the only one that gives us the real EOSfun

Canon interview in China, sounds rather asleep at the wheel still to say the least....
unless they are trying to build-up a surprise annoncement....
but with the D700 already out and more black at the olympics why wait for a big surprise (unless they need to finish field testing to make sure the new AF won't be anotehr fiasco before announcing).

- 50D: 15Mp, 1 stop better DR, improved AF, announced August
- successor of 5D: 21 Mp, better DR, improved AF, announced September

This is based on carefully analyzing new and old posts of someone who was right before

If what you say is correct, then 50D will be positioned against the D300 and 5DII against the D700. It makes sense, but it leaves a very clear gap between 450D and 50D. This, incidentally, is where the D90 is rumored to be positioned. So if you are correct, then Canon will need yet another model to plug that gap, while at the same time, it can pretty much shelve the 40D, 5D and 1D.
For my 2 cents, I can't see that happening. My guess is that the 50D and 5D2 will be pegged lower in order to provide a continuous upgrade path from the 1000D all the way to the ID by way of 450D, 50D, 5DII.

that is what you'd come up with if you follow the tiny hints of those he claim to have reason to know

although the stuff canon said in china doesn't make it sound it.

if that is all true, that would be pretty exciting news.
i'm still not so sure anymore, despite the NDA type people perhaps leaving hints that those who were posting stuff like above might be right (this did involve sifting lots of info and readin lots into things though), but because of the latter i sitll think maybe.
