p.1 #1 · A Wedding In Iowa

I took a few pictures this weekend at a relative's wedding. I liked these in particular. Any feedback and critique would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

1st is best for me - I would trim some off the top - rule of thumb is eyes 1/3 down. Good depth, exposure, background, nice smile too. good job.

2nd is pretty good too - you have both of them looking at you and good focus, depth. I would clone the top white thing intruding out. But otherwise pretty good. If you were to reshoot I would get all her hair in but thats being picky.

Last one seems a bit posed to me with her looking up and her face looks odd. Likely it is still good for family though. Good focus, nice bokeh on this one with good depth to their face.

Good job.

Scott,
As usual, I have come to expect you will comment and give me the answers. When I go back and look at your comments and re-visit the photos, you are spot on. Thanks again. Your comments are welcome and well-received. Paul

The young woman in the first photo suffers from her makeup. One of the problems with impromptu portraits is you are stuck with whatever makeup your subject applied after the wear and tear of the day. Like many young women she would benefit from good foundation and contouring with a brush even her skin tone and conceal skin irregularities. She also has beautiful teeth and needs better lip makeup to highlight that asset.

It's difficult to enhance her lips with PS, but given 20-30 minutes of moderately artful work with the clone tool, it is possible to give her a virtual makeover and compensate, at least in part, for what makeup should provide. You can also increase the highlights in her eyes and eliminate stray hairs with the clone stamp. The clone tool is your portrait friend.)

If you would like, and it's not a breach of etiquette, I can create and post a version of your image to illustrate what some minutes with the clone tool can do to mimic better makeup. I'll understand if you don't wish me to manipulate one of your images, but it may be more clear what I suggest if I can show you.
