p.1 #1 · Printing in CS3

I have CS3 and I print to an Epson 1800. I select a picture and then select File/print and then select the epson 1800 and set the size to print to 5x7. I am now looking at the CS3 print page. My picture is shown on the left side of the screen. The 5x7 I selected in the printer set up has not made it to this screen. The size that will come up is 12 x18 approx. This means that only the center of the picture is shown. If I click on scale to fit media then the size changes to 4.66 x 7. The picture now has a narrow white bar at the top and the bottom. If I print now that is exactly what I get. white tops and white bottoms. If I unclick the scale to fit media and then set the size manually I must go to 7.4 x 4.9 in order to get rid of the white bands. I know my system did not used to do this. What Have I screwed up?

Guys, maybe I made my question to complex. When you set the print size to 5x7 in the epson printer driver should that size be carried over to the CS3 print screen size?

i usually resize my image to 5x7 then go thru the printing process...i do that because for differnt size photos i use different sharpening.

Other than initial conversion sharpening whatever sharpening method I use is the last thing before printing. So,like Sunny I resize first then sharpen give it a once or twice over then print.

Sunny, when you say your resize to 5x7 do you crop to 5x7 or do you do it in image/image size. The only way I can get a 5x7 in image/image size to to check the resample box. Is this what you are referring to. If I do not allow resampling I can only get a 7.49 x 5

How about making a new file with 5x7 inch size and whatever DPI you like to use... then get the original file, copy and paste into the new 5x7 file and go from there.

A big thank you to all you guys but expecially to fusiongt. The idea of a new file works perfectly. I bring up the original shot. Crop as/if needed. Measure the height with the ruler tool, divide by the height in inches to get dpi. Then control c to save, new and then set the size in inches and use the calculated dpi. Control v and I have a printable picture with no white space.
Any short cuts to what I outlined above?

Use crop tool set to 5x7 select area to print then image>image size and resample to desired ppi save as new file name.

or

Use crop tool set to 5x7 and desired print ppi select area to be printed and save with new file name.

or

Print 4x6

You can also crop in the PS print dialogue box by using the up/down and % or size tools.
