Yes, Doug.. I would say that is close up... at first I thought it was GBH up close, and when you are expecting to see a heron and an owls eyes greet you, its quite a shock, let me tell you. These have great detail. Well done.
It makes easier to take some great pics of a GHO you jusy saw if you have the camera with you. Great job, Doug, you gor some sharrp detail, and some very nice colors.
Socrate
Doug, these are great, thank you for posting them. I do agree with the comment about the oversharpened look on some of them, but they are really stunning pictures. Great shooting.

Dang fine images Doug. Looks like he's winking at you in number 4
I'm still to come across one of these in the wild.
Opportunity knocked and you took great advantage of it

Thanks Anthony, I don't think #4 is a wink. If he didn't have feathers, I bet there would be some creases in his brow!

Doug, this is the kind of surprise that can get one's adrenaline going. What a great find, and a wonderful set of images. #5 is powerful! Love it
I was definitely surprised that it was a GHO that came out of the grasses, I was expecting a Redtail. Thanks for the nice comments.

Not fair Doug, I travel hundreds of miles to places that are supposed to be Owl Heaven and I end up with nothing, and you just tootle along in your truck, pull over, and get this. *sigh* Dang-fine shooting, and #5 deserves 3
Best Wishes,
Steve
Thank you much Steve....guess it helps to know where one needs to "tootle"!!

Nice job collecting your thoughts and gear for these Doug Just great to see you get these, good for you and us Beautiful creature and I agree #4 looks like the wink! Last shot is super cool, I see you standing up shooting this shot in the pupils! See you got Steve all jacked up now with these
Karl
Thank you for the nice comments Karl, just lucky being in the right place at the right time. Sorry to get Steve all bent out of shape, those left coast guys are just so "sensitive"!

Hey Doug,
These look a tad oversharpened but the colors and peeking-through-the-grass comps are pretty sweet. Especially like the close up on the last one. I noticed your owl has a dark spot on his iris. I've got one around here that I've been photographing for a few years that has a spot like that too.
Steve
Thanks Steve, appreciate all of your comments. I'm not sure what the black spot on the eye is, I saw another photo of one with the same thing.
