Do you guys think the price for the nikon sb600 will drop once the sb900 comes out? Or since its in a different class, it wont have any effect on the sb600 and the sb800. I'm looking to get a flash unit for my d80, but I dont know if I should wait to see if the sb900 will have any effect on the other flashes. Thanks in advance
I don't think it will drop a lot, the 800 on the other hand might come down some since it is in the same class as the 900.
I have a D80 and the sb600 , I absolutely love it. I wouldn't wait for the pricing to come down unless you were trying to decide between the 600 and 800 and cost was a major driving factor.
It was a toss up for me and I went with the 600, I have never regretted it.
I can't see Nikon dropping the price of the SB800 or SB600 at all. It is selling for $320 and $185 at B&H with the SB900 at $500. That's a significant price difference already between the three flashes and the SB800 is an equally capable flash to the SB900 minus a few conveniences. I think sales for the SB800/600 will continue to be strong with the SB900 being bought by people who has to have the latest in equipment. I think the price of the SB900 will come down some after the initial hype has died down. I would definitely welcome any price drops and add another 1 or 2 800's but I just don't see that happening.
Is there a significant difference in flash power between the sb600 and the sb800? I'm contemplating whether or not I should get the sb800 instead of the sb600 now..
Yes, but the SB800 also has other features. Such as CLS master mode, SU 4 slave mode, PC sync connection, stupid little bounce card. Now, it's up to you as to whether or not you think those features are worthwhile.

The power difference is marginal, particularly when you compare the difference between, say, a 200w-s and 400 w-s strobe. However, if you're using light modifiers with these little hotshoe flashes, like umbrellas or small softboxes, then you want every ounce of power that you can get.
For me, the more substantive advantages of the SB-800 are, as Avi noted, the ability to command remote flashes and the SU-4 mode (allows me to slave the SB-800 with one of my Elinchrom strobes). The PC sync port is great too. Gels and bounce domes are cheap, but getting a set with the SB-800 does add a little extra value.
