This is my first real attempt at using lights other then my Speedlites. I did a shoot for a friend;s website about her massage business. The space was very limited and I couldn't shoot as far from the table as I would have liked.
I had one light bouncing of an umbrella down onto the area of the model's head. The other light (also bouncing of a small umbrella) lighting the wall as a backdrop in some shots, and lighting the subject's feet/legs in others.
Any one else done this sort of thing? How could I have better arranged the lights on this?
These are straight from the camera with no PP done yet.
1st has odd frame through of her right arm and crown of her head. I would get the elbow.
2nd is better framed. I would clone/bandage off the tatoo. If you goal is to advertise you don't want to have a feature that would not suit 1/2 the viewers. My wife for instance would say ugh. I would also try to get the red out of her face with photoshop. To be picky I would get all the nose or none of it. Great job on the hands here.
3rd same comment on the tattoo. I don't like the background here. And the hand position do not look like massaging. I have never had a massage before but should she be wearing something more like a medical robe to impress the cient.
2 is best for me. If you really want to improve it higher a muscular model without tatoos. Everyone like to think of themself as perfect and it will sell better. Get a wider angle lens and either use very low fstop or clean up the background and consider dressing the massager up for the event.
Take my comments with caution because I have never sold a picture or shot a model and engineers are not known for aesthetics.
Thanks for the comments. I had no choice on the model, as the client (the masseuse) was dead set on having this person... she says "muscular" women are her clients, and that's what she wanted to portray. That definately added to the challenge of it all!
