Yes, fantastic shot Ajay. Too bad the small brother fails so hard in the bokeh department imho.

Off topic, any idea what could do that to a tree?

The tree had some type of bug infestations and the wholes are almost certainly from woodpeckers eating these bugs. I can't say the type of bug infestation without a closer examination or knowing where you took the shot. I hate seeing trees die, but that is part of nature too. I am liking your 50 MP shots and I especially like the bokeh in this one.

Bugs and woodpeckers sound reasonable, it's not my forest, just interested (if you're really interested I can send you the coordinates).

I like my backgrounds not to distract, but that's just me. That's why this thread is so great where you can see the different drawing styles in the bokeh.

Edit: two more

It's not only you - I still recall why this thread was started... But I understand the other group wanting "not boring" backgrounds as well.
Your tree image taken at f/2.8 is a little of a bad surprise to me. I thought that 50mm would do better stopped down. (Maybe I should keep my OM50/2 Macro after all.)

I blured the pic quite a bit in post and moved the sensed focus on the eyes BTW

One would expect the focus to be on the eye with an AF lens, but then - it is a Canon 5DII

the camera has no eye focus, it is simply focused where the photographer pointed the center spot point. This is the main reason why I like my Contax N lenses, the aperture ring can be used as an AF stop

Andi ... while the intent of the admirable blur is usually regarding bokeh ... I like the motion blur.

Nice composition to catch him with the boating lane behind, as well as 'drawing the eye' from far to near with the diagonal placement of the pier, coinciding with his direction.

Simple, understated & well done.

Bark beetles?

Thanks, Rusty, just shooting Western style, the composition is not so good after all

PS the Zeiss 50mm Macro Planar is a great lens, it is incredibly sharp even wide open and IMO has quite a nice bokeh

50 or 100?

EDIT: OK, thank you. So the bokeh is different in different situations then. Not a surprise but nicely demonstrated here.

I guess no one is saying the 50MP isn't sharp. It's a hell of a sharp lens. It's just that the bokeh tends to be on the busy side. Pretty much any lens can have smooth bokeh given the right circumstances.

Those were not shot as a comparison and this is obviously not a totally fair game due to different light, angle and obviously non-matching dof. Plus the background has too little detail to show a really big difference. But I'd say the CV looks quite a bit more 'calm'.

stopped down to f5 or f6.3 is going to make it much harder to give you the less distracting backgrounds
