"Line of sight" means two different things. To some people, it means "in plain view." To radio technologists, however, it means "in a straight line, unobstructed by radio-opaque materials."

So, no, the Cyber Syncs don't have to be visible to each other, but yes, they have to be in a straight line with only minor obstructions like a wall or two between them. The high frequencies at which they operate won't bounce off the ionosphere nor curve in a terrain-following manner as some lower frequencies can, so no hills or large metal objects should be in the way for reliable operation.

Two common glass doors shouldn't be a problem.

I can't imagine a situation where I would need that much range (others may have their reasons), but knowing that they can reach that far would give me confidence that they'd be reliable over the shorter distances that I work at, even with a few obstructions to go through.
