Folks ... I could do that hack job in five minutes - guaranteed!
This, if it is not real, is no case of someone working hard in PS. Take an advert from some obscure county and crumple it up a bit. The add is real for sure, but the language does not strike me as USA or Brit english ... though I could be wrong here - and you take the legit ad ... and simply change the D700! How hard is that?
Like I mentioned before ... does anyone in a foreign country perhaps recognise an old D200 or D300 add ... that may have had the same layout, with a few minor differences? Or the text?
I hope this is legit. I think it may be. But we are becoming a joke. Every, I mean every hoax, good or bad, fake or true ... has its legions of people dead sure that its real. Are we desperate? (well, ok, sometimes I am )
Every week for over 1 year, I've had someone ( or 2 or 3 or 4) tell me in the shop, they were waiting for the new 5D MkII because they had a reliable source that told them it was coming next week.
On a few occasions it's almost gotten nasty, they get shitty and walk out.
The 5d mark II will be released June 1st. no wait, that's June 11th, no, er uhh..no, june 21st. No, it's timed to come out on the same day as this mythical D700 shown as a bad PS hack. yeah, that's it, the 5d2, which may not exist, is coming out on the same day as the D700 which doesn't exist...
Put your money down now. don't buy anything else; these will be everything you want for under $1,000 worthless USD...Buy now. operators are standing by....
Well, I just headed over to dpreview and supposely a reliable poster over there has actually seen the D700. I dont venture over there much, but many posters have said he is reliable......
Ingredients needed for a 'solid' rumour bolognese. Internet and access to photoshop.... just add 'source'.
Source is usually from your friends mate that works as the cleaner nextdoor to his daughters basketball coach who's friend works as the sales rep. I'm not even sure if that's 6 degrees.
I reckon I've got more chance of saying I know Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I don't see what's so wrong with speculation? It's just chatter. I hope nobody is basing business decisions on these shots, but as long as we're all just interested in the next thing coming from Nikon, what's wrong with talking about it? Of course it's not concrete. I like speculating, though, and given the length of this thread, I'm not alone.
There's another difference in the release of new bodies, though, besides photoshop making it easier to fake products. Film bodies didn't have such a significant impact on image quality and basic camera functionality. Now that the "film" and a lot of the processing is integrated into the camera, a different camera body could either produce great or terrible images, which was not the case with film. About the worst thing a film body could be was an ergonomic nightmare or, perhaps at the worst, a poorly focusing body. A digital body can actually make or break the basic image itself.

I really wonder why the Chinese always get first dibs. Anyone with a D300 or D3 manual, can you look where it's printed/made? Does it say China (PRC, Taiwan ROC etc) or Japan?
If it says Japan, then why is this 'rumor' not from a Japanese forum?
I have an EOS 450D manual right here with me it says, "Printed in Japan."
Wow ...
"on the 1st July 2008, a major supplier will be announcing a brand new SLR"
not a DSLR but an SLR ...
Pavel, have you actually seen that new F7 you mentioned in your above post or how could you know ?
Speculating is one thing. Love a good rumour. What is disturbing is things like selling off your camera because of a new camera rumour. Or telling staff they don't know what they're talking about and nearly getting into a fight about it.
