Since it's all conjecture anyway, I'm putting FPS at 3.5 - 4

I'd guess that as well Steve. But you're only allowed one guess number.

Agree....I would be very interesred in the D700 as long as the fps were not at a snails pace like the 5D. I would like to replace my D200 with the D700 and as long as I stayed the same with fps...I'd be satisfied

I don't think Nikon's gonna release a new pro body with lower fps then D200...

I was fooling around on the internet and found something interesting that helped me realise why D700 and not D10 as some told before... Nikon F-90, F4, F5 an F6 have grips called MB-10, MB-20, MB-30 and MB-40 (I'm new to it, so I didn't know about these grips) so it make sense to have a MB-10 for D300 and being MB-D200 the grip for D200 doesn't mean that MB-D10's gonna be released for a D10.
Very well... let's wait a little more for this new camera do come

True. Sorry, I made a mistake, there're no MB-30 also MB-20 is for F4 and MB-40 for F6.

why do you say that with so much certainty??

Well, Nikon may be up to something for July by other accounts around the place. My other part of the statement still stands though.

How do I know?

Same answer I had when I said the D200 and D2x replacements were on their way a couple of months before announcement... tea leaf readings of course.

Yes, the frame rate is important for my use. Exiting!

nikt wrote:
These guys are just copying what is already here in an FX chip, so it's the blatantly obvious. The problem with these specs and all the others.... no frame rate.

Yes, and?

that looks an awful lot like the other post you just posted saying "D700:

Auto crop when using DX lenses. All other lenses usable.
51 point AF, 15 cross type sensors.

Iso 100- 25600.

Accu and grip same as MB- D10 (from D300).

Why wouldn't the frame rate be the same as the D300? I mean, it's still 12mp (a few less than the d300 actually). Unless there is a tech reason for getting the info off a bigger sensor.

If this camera exists and the frame rate is anything less than the D300's, I would suspect sabotage by Nikon

Not sure if this matters, but Nikon's USA site lists the D3's sensitivity as -

Extreme low-noise ISO range with advanced noise reduction: This enables photographers to confidently select from 200-6400 ISO with an expanded range that includes: Lo-1 (100 ISO), Hi-1 (12,800 ISO) and Hi-2 (25,600 ISO)

So anytime I see 100-25600 I suspect something is not right.

This will go down as "The D700 Hoax of June 08"!

If not, then a lot of people will be very happy campers

Re. frame rate: moving the mirror up and down, as well as actuating the shutter in between, are the main constraints, I would say. The D300 already moves its info off the sensor is a timely fashion! Again, this is just a guess, but I would say that the D3's capacity to do 11 FPS is a significant part of its cost.

For me personally, 3 FPS is way more than enough for my work.

12 MP on full frame is a bit too low for very fine details (lower noise, but larger RGB sensors will have lesser detail). I think the next generation will be somewhere around 25 MP. The individual photosensors are smaller and this will increase the detail (to the point were lenses are again the limiting factor). But it's interesting to have cheaper models with full frame sensor.

25MP full frame for $2000 (1500 euro) would be a good point to upgrade my D200. I think 3 years from now.

that will never happen. there really is no need to cover the entire frame area with AF sensors.

you know as the generations of imagers came out the last few years many said 6 was enough then it was 8 after that it was 12 and it will go on. it will go on and on until the technology will run into a physical sizing, noise and speed "brick wall". and just about that time they will pull out of a very dark and cramped place the next technology to replace this one.

it is as much marketing as it is science and engineering. if you are a tech company and don't have your next "big thing" on the drawing board or in the wings under lock and key you are too far behind. your job is to create the marketing departments job is to make the end user drool and crave for it. it ends when you do. its all coming just when is the right time to release it.

when i had my 1Ds (11) i was amazed. then my 1Ds2 (16) i was impressed but not as much as i thought i would be. used the 1Ds3 (21) darn near yawned but it was a little tighter in the image Q but was it worth it for me i decided no.

Yep, marketing and the drool affect can hook the best of us. I have to say the full frame sensor has been a real treat in one area I had not been thinking of.... seeing your subject, . Yes the 1.5 crop does the job, but full frame makes a huge diffrence when you need to see details through the viewfinder for good composition. For the older shooter who has less than perfect vision the D3 is a breath of fresh air. When it comes to MP's Im still satisfied with the 4mps from my D2H. The D3 @12mp's is perfect. Let the next D3? be more for the shooters that require more. I think most PJ/Sports Shooters are perfectly fine with the current resolution. I hope we are close to that brick wall I think we are darn close, unless DSLR's move into a whole new format? 24-26mp's should be it when you consider how most images are viewed by the human eye. Then there are the limitations of the lenses. I would love to hear from someone who knows more about this. Im just taking a wild guess here. I think Nikon has done a good job. We've bitched and moaned about the time factor of when they produce things but, now I see why. Their right where they need to be. The D?00, D3X and a new lens line up makes sense for the FX direction. The DX sensor will fade into higher end prosumer cameras at a significantly reduced cost, not today or tommorrow but down the road. The full frame is where Nikon will be putting its coin. Visually it makes more sense even if you have good eyes. This has already been confirmed with the new 14-24 and 24-70. I think we will be seeing a whole new wave of full frame lenses, with new AFS and VR options. The digital image maker is here to stay. The coin investment will follow and it will not be putting more coin into the DX format for professionals. Just my early am 2 cents,

Wouldn't it be funny if it were a Nikon announcement, and it was the D80 replacement. I'd actually be excited since we didn't talk about it.... no matter how obvious the specs might seem.
