Any guesses on price? $2800?

The website these pics come from said $2995.

Peace,

Todd

Still too expensive. Needs to be under $2500 to compete.

Gerald

$2500 would be ideal...but I'd be willing to fork out 3k. Really will depend on where the 5D II lands and and what features it has. I don't care about additional resolution, but it'd have to have much better AF, build, LCD, etc as well, and if it does, I don't see it coming in at $2500 either.

Guaranteed the 5DII will be no more than the current 5D, and I'm sure it will be close in many ways to what Nikon will put out. Current 5D prices are around $2300, from what I've been seeing.

Gerald

I dunno. That's kind of like saying the D300 wouldn't be introduced at a price more expensive than what D200's were going for. The wouldn't price it above what the 5D was introduced at, sure, but current going price?

Well that's very interesting, $2999 or under would be swell.

I'd be sad to see my 17-55 go, but I hear the 24-70 is awfully sweet :-)

Dunno. Look at the cap for the 10-pin remote accessories. Why would Nikon go back to the old screw-in style, and not use the new style one from the D300/D3?

If you scroll halfway down this page in the Chinese forum where this broke, looks like a poster named dalessandro asks this same question.

EDIT: Note in that same forum, there's something about a SB-900 as well.

It's not the old screw in style. If you look closely (or blow up in photoshop) you'll see that it is a rubber cap, with a little fastener going around the side of the body. Looks like they are moving away from the more once piece style on the D300/D3, but not going back to screw ins.

Well, I should say, that's how it looks to me. My opinion may be tainted by my hopefulness in it being true.

Scary.

It DOES seem that this possible new product would be designed to complement an existing D300 body. This seems logical.

Rodolfo, it's my fault. Raymond said unequivocally that he wasn't going to buy another body when he had the D40. I told him to get the D80 he would love it.

Oops!

How is that logical? It sounds like a complete replacement

Would it be safe to assume this D700 will be primarily a studio camera, with a slow shooting burst (ie 3.5 fps)? Because if it inherits the D300's 6.0 fps burst, this camera would seriously cannibalize the Nikon D3 sales.

I think all bets are off until any announcement is made. Data to be processed would be pretty much the same as on the D300, so anything slower would be an artificial limitation.

Not for those who insist on a "pro body". (In other words those that insist on carrying a 3 lb camera rather than a 2lb one)
