It was fun. I was heading to bed down in Costa Rica and one of the feeders wasn't emptied by the hummers that day, so the bats were hitting it on my porch. On went the flash--and I didn't get to bed on time. Took a bit of doing to get the focus and flash settings right (I was shooting in the dark, literally) but it was a heck of a lot of fun.
you got a bat!!! I have them flying over my head every night when I feed the horses. I keep wanting to figure how to shoot them & here I see you have them coming to a hummingbird feeder.

Good stuff but a bit grainy. Any reason why?
I used my 'Expose to the left, then move the exposure slider to the right to maiximize grain' technique (patent pending) on these.
Like I said, I was heading off to bed when the oppty to shoot bats presented itself. What I didn't say was that I had a few cervesa's with dinner. So at the end of the day these shots are much more a documentation of the fact that hummingbird feeders attract bats in Costa Rica than any display of skill in the art of photography.
My 'Bats As Art' book is temporarily on hold until I sort out a few issues.
Who woulda thought They have a toungue Absolutely cool 'documentative' shots, I like the processing technique and am all in for your Bats As Art book too.
These are great as are the comments. I have used that maximize grain technique myself from time to time. You made the most of it here. Thanks for posting.
