$2500. No-one should pay more than that for technology that old no matter how good the quality of the photos it produces. Even with very low activations.

""No-one should pay more than that for technology that old""

Six months ago it was the newest technology you could buy in Canons full frame 1 series cameras

I said $2750 but that may be way off. I was torn between $2500 and $3000, so I split it but none of us really knows. If you ask the same question in 4 months, the answer will be more definitive...

Several things militate against the 1ds2 holding its value in 12 months. Those things are 1) low priced 5ds, 2) a possible 5d successor (don't count on it as Canon may never do it), 3) Sony, and a very distant, almost non-factor 4) Nikon....

Nikon will not release anything in the lower price range for a long time. Sony will release something with 24MP, but it will be around $5k IMO. Canon doesn't want to release any decent product that will hurt their inflated pricing on the 1 series, but a 1d3-sensor-based 16MP 5d successor (if that ever happened) would put a stake in the heart of the 1Ds2 from an IQ perspective.

Unlike the 1ds which held its value for quite a while because there was little to no pro level FF competition, the game has changed and will continue changing... I just don't know how much.

Personally I can't see the price going below $3000 within the next year. Maybe it will be there when the 1DS III is near the end of it's product cycle.

IMO,
Marc

many have already sold for under $3500 and the competition won't begin until late Sept (PK 2009)...

Implicit in this statement is that the value of technology is not the quality of output, but the newness of design. I cannot agree.

Yep. 6 months ago it was, now it ain't and in a year it will be that much more "now it ain't" I am taking into account the inevitable choices that will come available from competitors in my calculations. The new 1DSMK3's are selling for under 7K now on buy/sell.

The camera is still as good as it ever was, some are just newer not always better. I think it'll hold in the low to mid $3K range about 3.2-3.5K

7k is a long way from 2,5k And of course the used one are selling for under 7k, I bought my new one for under 7k
And it's always people who never owns the cameras that knows what they are worth but i suppose they like to talk down the price of the old technology that they wish they could afford

The price will mainly depends on the condition of the camera, 9++ condition with everything in box, and has less than 20k shutter clicks or so will still sell around 3.5k.

But for the beat up ones, sure spending $2500 you can get one.

Also when talking 7K 1Ds Mark III as a reference is just so navie, the 7K 1Ds Mark III sales in B&S is temperarything, and it's not the normal price of this camera...

Cheers !

Am thinking about asking for a trade for a very good 1DsMk2: a 1Dmk2N with 56k clicks in good shape with some minor body marks, and a 1V HS in excellent shape with the EOS Link software included...both with Kirk L-Brackets. Although listening to these prices, I may be on the short end of the stick if I offer that...maybe better to just sell them seperately...any thoughts? What I don't know is what a 1Dmk2N as described above would be worth, or really the 1V HS either. If you want to look at the stuff, it is here: http://www.fredmiranda.com/hosting/showgallery.php?cat=5598

But it sounds like both together are worth more than a super nice 1DsMk2 and maybe I should make three seperate transactions.

Oh, and sorry if I'm hijacking the thread...but since we are talking pricing and I'm trying to sort this one out, hope it is OK.

Boy, shooting in the dark on prices is no fun!

I owned one one Lars. And I could own a 1DSMK3 in a New York minute if I wanted one so its not a question of money. Its my projection of what I believe will be a realistic price for a used 1DMK2s in a year

And yet you where the first person to be interested in the 1Ds2 a couple of days ago in the B&S forum. Why would you be interested in that camera for $ 3995 if you belive they are worth a lot less

They are worth that amount now but I decided against it for several reasons (but I'm flattered you follow my Buy/Sell activity)...

This discussion is about what people think they will be worth in a year and I happen to think that will be around $2500.

I kept my D30 as I felt that it was worth more than I could get by selling. Now, I am stuck with it and it is collecting dusts.
At some point, I guess, I should sell 1Ds2. But then, again, for $2500 ? I will keep it.

I think 1Ds2 is worth more than 4K regarless how old it is. I see only 1Ds3 can top this old king. Its IQ will increase the demand then its value will peak again

Strange how timid people are about shutter click count. Whether a pro body has 100 "clicks" 0r 80,000 "clicks" it will still last 9 out of 10 users 3 years before even approaching the mtbf of 150,000 operations. Oh and when the shutter dies ( OH MY GOD) it costs about $300 to get it replaced.

When you talking used market, the shutter clicks etc is one measure to see how the camera was used, just like used cars's miliage....

And if you don't care, would you pay the same price for 150k and 10k shutter clicks cameras ?

When you use the camera yourself, it doesn't matter for your camera has 200k or 5k shutter clicks, but when you sell them, they do..and nothing wrong with it..

I find it even more hilarious how cheap people are here wanting to bum off of members for CanCount.exe to check the count of there cameras
