Just a bit excited about a recent purchase after contemplating whether to save money for primes or zooms...I don't know, ever since my recent switch from Canon...I've turned a new leaf and am looking for mostly primes nowadays. Anyone have recent input about this lens?

What about the 8/8, '81 to present version (Avi B, which version is seen in that clip?). Thanks
Present AF version is quite the rubbish compared to the older AIS f/2 and f/2.8.
Based on my own tests, wide open the 2.8 is actually sharper than the [email protected]. Stepping down after that, the F2 wins out.
You won't go wrong with either the f2 or f2.8 when it comes to the 28mm AIS versions.

I have no idea how to check though the guy I bought it off of (sold me all his film gear) said he bought all his stuff back in 1983 or 1984 timeframe.
The 28 2.8 ais is one of my favorite Nikon primes. Its part of my basic prime set (along with my 50mm, and 105mm). Very sharp with nice color for less than a few hundred bucks. Nice length for full body or small group shots on the DX bodies. I'm still too slow with my manual focusing, however. Its definitely easier with my full frame F100 than even my D2Hs.
MichaelMann: Pretty funny, I think we've built nearly the same prime kit:
28mm f2.8 AI-S / 50mm f1.4D AF / 105mm f2 DC AF - have you ever found a need to expand your prime line? After collecting my basic primes, which I can now do some real work with, I'll likely save up to buy a zoom, probably a 24-70. I "should" be set for a while.
whyhan: do you have any test pictures for reference? Thanks for the input!
