p.1 #1 · Thinking of getting a 1Ds mk I

Just want to get some opinions on this body.

The 5D's are within the same price range, but i've grown to love my 1D MKII.

Can anyone point me to the pro's/cons of the 1ds vs the 5d?

I really don't care about the extra mega pixel on the 5D....

Thanks

Dan

Everything about 1dsmarkI is good except Buffer + Battery + Hi above 400 ISO. Images are stunt under controlled lights.

I'd pick a 1Ds over a 5D for landscape photography any day. Studio, maybe too. Had the 1Ds during its entire tenure, and loved it. The images are still awesome and print great. If it wasn't for the noise and speed (or lack thereof), the 5D would not stand a chance. As it is, the 5D is definitely more versatile; but *if* you can keep the 1Ds within its limits, it will win.

I'd say go with the 5D. Noise should be lower at the low ISO settings. I'd even take the 5D over the 1DsII.

Whoa. Not in a million years. I think you're a bit noise obsessed, Ben

ids2 kills the 5d. the 1ds 1 is just plain old--poor battery. but you can take pro quality shots with any of them.

I had this decision a few months ago, i went for the 1Ds , as i have a 1dmk2n .
All controls are the same, as other have stated it is a great camera when used inside its limits.
Oh, you get used to the 30 second it takes to bring up preview for you

I take 1Ds series anytime - no question about it 1Ds AF & its build is light years compare to 5D - 1Ds still has an edge in IQ - perfect portrait & landscape camera for outdoor. Indoor is not bad either as long you know how to feed its mount. If you can live under 400 ISO take 1Ds otherwise 5D for easy home run

Like Allan, I opted to pair a 1Ds with my 1DIIN and love the results from my 1Ds. I greatly preferred the heft and controls of the 1Ds to the 5D after going to a shop to try the 5D.

Well, seeing is that i do a lot of weddings i think that the 5D would be a wiser choice...
But i would definitely love to give the 1Ds a try and see what i can do with it.
Right now, it's looking like the 5D is the route.....unfortunately.

I've done some big enlargements from both cameras, and I just found that if you have any deep dark tones in a shot, it looks very gritty and falls apart fast when tweaked with the 1DsII. The 5D was a bit more clean in these areas. Other than that, the resolution difference is not huge.
