American Chameleon

While fixing my fence this afternoon, I noticed this Carolina Anole watching me while I worked. I went inside and grabbed the D300, which had the 105mm VR mounted on it... and came back outside to snap few pics of my audience.

Sometimes referred to as the American Chameleon (though not a true chameleon), do to its ability to change color from brown to green, depending on it's mood or time of day. This was one of the first really green specimens I have seen around my house lately. Maybe he was happy I was finally fixing my fence.

Nice pictures indeed, what a cool thing to find while fixing a fence!

Are those f stops labeled correctly? I didn't think you could get shallow dof like that at f/8 and 105mm....I'm new to all this which is why I'm asking

Yes, that is the correct EXIF info. I was really close to the little guy, so DOF becomes razor thin at 2.8, 3.5, 4, etc. I stopped down so that more of his head was in focus. I learned the hard way that you need to be stopped down enough to keep more detail, like his head.

very nice, esp #3.
I get these guys with 5oomm sometimes while waiting for birds.
They can be quite entertaining to watch when hunting bugs

splendid detail

Will agree that the third is a fine one but I do like #1 and #4 for the draw to the eye, great color

Thank you all for the nice comments. I wasn't expecting much from these shots, but I was pleasantly surprised, to say the least.

Very nice captures of a Carolina Anole, aka Green Anole. Good job with focusing the eyes. I like the shot with the red dewlap extended.

Great job on these. The color is fantastic and they are quite sharp. Number 3 is my pic for photo of the day

Nice
