Strengths: Overall, this is an incredibly sharp and good contrast lens with superior autofocus function in either single focus acquisition or tracking focus mode. Out of focus blur at f/2 (bokeh) is very pleasing for an 85mm lens. It is a very light and compact lens that provides high performance at a relatively inexpensive cost.
Weaknesses/Challenges: None within the aperture limits of the lens for most photographic applications. At apertures wider than f/2.8, the f/1.8 lens has slightly lower contrast and sharpness than the f/1.2L lens."
If this is true than this may not be exactly the sharpest there is but it can measure itself with the 1.2 L version... right?
For sharpness at a reasonable price the 200 2.8 and 135 2.0 are great telephono wise. For wide ange I would go with the 24 1.4 or 35 1.4.
Ditto for the 200mm 2.8L. I have a mkII version. A 70-200 of any kind would serve me little benefit, and weigh a ton. The 200 2.8L is light, compact, razor sharp, and a steal of a deal for when I need a bit of reach.
You can cut yourself on a number of canon lenses,.... and spread butter with others of course. The people posting that the super tele primes are the sharpest are correct. This has always been canons strong point. 35L, 85L, 135L and 200L(s) are all insanely crisp lenses in the right hands for those of us not birding or shooting outdoor sports.
