This series is also from the blackwater nwr and was in fact taken within maybe the first 10 minutes of arriving at the refuge. This series follows an amazing event but i'll post that later as there are a good number of images from this part. After being caught in the water fairly close to me and an interesting flight later the osprey carrying this poor fishy was diverted towards me. When I first arrived I thought it was odd that this tree was ALL by itself...when he flew towards me I couldnt have been happier it was the ONLY tree around as it meant the osprey was landing right there....about 20 feet from me maybe 10 feet off the ground!! Again...only shot at 200mm.
Here she comes with the payload being the poor fishy. Blown up the fishes face simply says...I CAN FEEL IT IN MY BRAIN!!!! KILL ME!!
My favorite image of the entire trip. Coming in for a 1 talon landing right near me, all the while the fish is still quite alive and squirming around.
Really are impressive birds.
MY FISH. Not yours.
The glare of death.
After settling for a moment I finally crouch down for a moment (i've been standing in the open and should could care less...after what happened I certainly wasnt as much of a threat) and finally spook her. That claw...man that fish is still alive...that has to suck!
That will make for a most memorable moment for you Jeremy! Nice pick of trees to hang out at, I can only imagine what you were thinking when he came in for that landing Good for you, hope to see the others later.
Thanks guys! I pretty much couldnt believe he was coming right at me and landing so close, but photography instinct took over and I just held down the shutter as I watched it through the viewfinder.
