The light that spilled in back of the brush pulls my eye away from the subject and out of the frame, 'tho - if it were mine I think perhaps I would burn it or clone the shadow to cover it, but that's just me... Here's how it's done...camera on a tripod set to "BULB". I used a shutter release cable, so that I can control how long the shutter will remain open (this one was open for 19.9 seconds). In a completely dark room, I used a flashlight (I made a snoot for on the end of the flashlight with tin foil...to flatten out the light more) to draw where I wanted their to be light. I wanted some light on the paint brush...so I slowly went of it. Then I wanted the sweeping look from the paint brush off...I just kept going back and forth with the light...following my path.
