p.1 #1 · new 24" monitor

Hi there,

I am facing a bit of a dilema. I currently have a 19" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930B monitor, which has fantastic picture quality, but is a bit small in screen real estate and far too large in depth on my desk. I'd like something to replace it to reclaim my desk!

I'm currently looking at 24" TFT screens, but I'm a bit concerned that the picture quality wont be as good as what I currently have. I had a laptop with a terrible screen for viewing angles (unusable 3degrees out vertically so you couldn't see the whole screen from one position), and I have a bad 20"ish monitor at work where again the vertical viewing angle is poor (although not to the same degree). With the monitor I have at work it just seems too bright and even after attempting to calibrate it looks poor.

It's not a must have feature, but I would love it if the monitor can be rotated into portrait orientation.

As far as what I want for myself, I've been looking at:

1) NEC MultiSync LCD2470WNX-BK
2) Benq FP241W
3) Benq FP241WZ
4) Dell 2407WFP-HC
5) Dell 2408WFP

I can't tell what the differences between the Benq "W" and the "WZ" versions are, or between the two Dells.

I've heard that the NEC is very good, but it's limited in connectivity compared the the Benq's and is more pricey.

Anyone have any recommendations between these 5, or any others to throw into the mix?

Cheers,

I've had exposure to one of them, the Dell 2407. My supervisor is a dedicated gamer, and he read lots of very favorable reviews of the Dell 24" a couple years ago, so he got one. He was extremely happy with it. Based partly on that, I got one myself, and I couldn't be happier.

Hi firewireguy,

The difference between the two Benq displays is the W viewing angle is 176/176 and the WZ 178/178, so not alot in that. Also other minor differences are power consumption for the W is 120W against less than 95W for the WZ, also the W has 3 USB ports but the WZ only 2, the W has a TCO 06 safety rating whereas the WZ not sure has one!

As for the Dells, which I have heard are very good too, the 2407 has a contrast ratio of 1000:1 versus 3000:1 for the 2408. The 2407 has a viewing angle of 89˚ whereas the 2408 has a viewing angle of 178˚ Horiz. and Vert.

The 2408 is a higher updated spec of the 2407, checkout the dell site for full specs, the older 2407 spec can easily be found elsewhere on the net, obviously it is cheaper though.

Right thats me done. Hope that helps you come to a decision!

All the best
Phil

Thanks, I've gone for the 2408 in the end. I think the 89˚ viewing angle is +-, which works out the same. I'm amazed at how difficult it is to find information on monitors for their use in graphics work - every review concentrates on games, movies and "desktop", which just means MS Word.

It should be with me on Monday so I'll let you know how that goes then.

Cheers again!
