p.1 #1 · Not quite right?

This one has me undecided. Sometimes I like it for its other worldly look other times I find it too busy. This capture has some good qualities but I can’t quite put my finger on what bothers me about it.

This was taken in Colorado foothills on a windy winter day. I bracketed it and used a circular polarized filter. I came up with an odd look that I can’t quite but my finger on.

Thanks for looking,
Don

I would crop 10% off right and 1/3 off top and clone out the hanging down branches. I would also clone out the attenae on top of the hill left.

The picture is very interesting but suffers from too many trees and branches hanging down. If the middle tree was not in it without the branches hanging down I think it would work.

It is a very nice scene but just needs less competition from forground items and a little less competition between foreground and backgroung.

I don't know... Thats alot of work for a shot that seems to be lacking in original composition. Maybe that is what is bothering me. Too busy and poorly composed?
I see your point about foreground/background competition.

Perhaps a re-take with the leftmost tree closest? That would make the foreground a whole lot less busy.

Honestly to me, the texture in the trees is by far the most interesting thing in this shot... you might take a couple shots playing with that, especially in similar sidelighting. Also might be interesting if you can find a longer stretch of sand to isolate the subject a little more.

As it is I don't think the image has much impact, my eye bounces around without catching a subject or identifying a mood/aesthetic/storyline.

I agree with the others: too busy, no central focus, too many branches.
