p.1 #1 · Muir Beach pt1 (5)

So before the woods a friend and I went to the beach and hiked up the trails into the hills. Way too many possible comps there so I will have to do multiple parts. Here is the first 5. Honest c/c always appreciated and hopefully you enjoy. Thanks for your time.

Hi Aaron,

What a highly creative set in here. Overall my favorites are the B&W ones. You did really good on the conversions, though the lighting and compositions sure seem to favored B&W's that day. I really like that first one, great use of limited DOF on that. #2, maybe a bit more contrast needed, and the sky could use a little more TLC. I am not usually a fan of vignetting in landscape shots, but you have used it effectively in #4 with that shot of that rock.

Hey, thanks a bunch Jim. Yea it was mid day so the b/w where turning out better. I might have to play with doing 2 adjustments for the balanced rocks. I did the same thing with the solo rock.

And check this! Instead of selecting to blend and all that I just have been using a graduated tool and it's the same as using the gnd in the field. Very easy and quick...I likey.

But going back.....sooooo many compositions that day. Fences running through hills kill me. Will have another pt2 and/or 3 soon.

I have to be good and only post a few at a time and not like a school boy and giddly throw 15 images up :-P

Hey Aaron,

Yeah, the Grad tool is a cool tool! It's definately very similar to using a grad ND filter. What it can't do though is prevent blownout highlights, which using a grad ND filter in the field can do. Just something to keep in mind...

I really like that B&W conversion of that rock... your B&W's are really on the money here.

I actually prefer b/w for a lot of applications, but appreciate very much your comments Jim.
I use the grad tool when I am combining two shots...either using 2 edits of the same image or 2 exposures for highlights/shadows. I'm sneaky.

Glad you enjoyed the images...now let's see who didnt ;-)

P.S. Aperture 2.1 dodge/burn/saturation/sharpen...etc. oh so exciting :-)
