p.1 #1 · Too busy?

I took this shot a couple nights ago and find myself wrestling with whether it's too busy or not. Definitely looking for C&C on this, calling it a work in progress might be giving it too much credit.

I think so. I like the motion of the roadway on the left and the fire boat on the right, but I don't think the motion on the balloon's works. I like the hotel, stadium, and fire boat (with motion) as one shot. The balloon's with the water and boats as another shot. And the motion of the roadway (panned to the left) as another shot.

Ken-
That's the instinct I was having also... At the time I was limited to the lens I had and I couldn't get long enough to tie off any one of those shots, as it is I cropped out some dead space in the foreground.

I'm seeking for someway to tie this all together into a cohesive scene and thus far can't seem to get there, probably just reaching too much. Anyone out there think that's possible given the different subjects? If so, how?

It's not just that it's too busy, it's the fact that the areas of interest are so bright and so far apart and so near the edge of the frame and in the case of the balloons so blurry (due to movement in the wind). On a less windy occasion some of the various parts would look sharper.

There is no EXIF data (naughty boy) but maybe with a longer lens you could have made several more interesting photos out of this instead of one.

Thus far I haven't been able to avoid Flikr stripping the exif data... if anyone has some insight there I'd love to hear it...

Shot was 55mm, f16, 30secs. In retrospect a larger aperture would have helped with the blur in the balloons. 55mm was as long as I had with me, so I took what I could get. Anyway, thanks for the thoughts.

I like this picture. It is too busy though. I think your most interesting features are all crammed into the left side of the shot. I'd like to see the roadway with the long exposure head/tail lights featured more priminently in conjunction with the hot air balloons.
