here are two images I feel have a lot of potential, but need some magic to really bring the colours out. any help would be greatly appreciated...

You could increase the stauration and and contrast, but that will probably block the highlights. I'd re-shoot it until I got what I want. Also, I frequently shoot continuous bracketed pairs, one at the meter reading and the second 1/2 stop under. Being a little under increases stauration.

#2 needs a re-shoot - the focus is on the base and tree trunk, the monkeys (sorry, don't know the particular species) will always be soft.

This is from someone absolutely unqualified to C&C, I agree with what has been said.

But the second one with the monkey (I also don't know what species they are and I am a biology major!), you can't reshoot so make the best with what you have:

I like the base at the bottom. Maybe crop a little bit from the right to take out the bright rock on the right and the bright top of the tree trunk. It draws my eyes away. Kinda a frame for the picture with the out of focus tree that balances the left tree?
