In order to get this shot, I had to position the camera about an inch off the ground in the shadow of Adam's head, while not looking through the view finder (as I wasn't into getting cold muddy sandy sludge all over me by lying down). Squiggy (the dog) stayed still for a little bit, but kept moving her head around. This was shot 13 of 24, each one a little different. Dogs are tough to photograph. They require more patience and more frames.
That is a nice photo for what you are trying to capture.
I also appreciate that your posting here includes the 'backstory' on the shot as I find things like that interesting to read.
Now I have a few questions for you. My questions are sincere and are not judgmental. I simply am curious about something I noticed on this thread and I hope you can explain it so I can learn something. I am not a blogger so I am ignorant about what constitutes good 'form' in blogging. Please explain so a layman like me can understand.
1. Your post says at the bottom "syndicated from my blog" and I have never seen that before. I clicked the link and found the same photo and same text on your blog. Is the 'syndication' to indicate something that bloggers do or is it something you do etc...?? I have always thought of syndication in the sense of multiple places where an item (newspaper column for example) is published at the same time. So this leads me to wonder how many places your 'syndicated' thread appears....so....
2. I wonder how many forums you post your 'syndicated from my blog' type of photos to. I am curious. Is this something where you visit many forums and post the photos and parts of your blog as you develop your blog? In other words, do you develop a new part of your blog and then decide to go around the net and paste that part into forums in threads in order to get people to visit your blog?
I hope you will answer these questions as I would like to understand this element to forums and blogs etc..
Recently I saw another member here do something very similar. She evidently clipped a big piece of her blog and pasted it here as a new thread. Seeing your post now has made me think about this.
Awesome shot. I don't know, one of the hardest things to give up when I had to sell my SLR stuff was the viewfinder. Not sure where you're coming from. Live view just allows me to shoot overhead and arms out while being able to frame.
steady,
interesting you ask, because it was your post the other day that prompted me to do it.
i've been blogging since last august and love it. but i wanted to share my postings on a proper forum, for real discussion. my blog was not giving me that. so, i started re-posting my entries here and have enjoyed the atmosphere. in the past couple of days, i started to put a link back to the blog because you said how much you appreciated the stories on there and i wanted to provide others with easy access to them. i have spent A LOT of time on making it a place that people enjoy visiting. your words of encouragement led me to first, just put [link to blog post] - but then i wasn't sure that was clear, so i put 'syndicate' since i have been literally syndicating on a few image related wikizines on zimbio.com, which is basically a public blogging space specifically setup for syndicating. it's pretty cool.
but i don't have time to go and post my entry anywhere else. maybe when i have enough to hire an assistant and they get bored
as a landscape, event, wedding, portrait, photojournalist my blog entries are generally suitable for placement in one of the forums here. after you said how much you like the stories, i figured people reading my blog might then like your comments so, i also just decided that if a worthy discussion ensues, i will then go edit my blog entry to add a link back to that discussion here.
i hope that answers your query. i certainly appreciate your comments on my images

Colin,
That was just the kind of answer I needed in order to better appreciate the 'blog' versus 'forum' benefits. I appreciate your answers and details provided. It helps me understand something new.
Also, I think one of the nicest things in your blog/forum entries is the backstory with the kind of 'experience' that many photographers can 'relate to' or learn from. I wish more of the members here would post in a similar fashion.
My Simple Suggestion for that point: Everyone could learn from some of the 'challenge I faced and here is how I overcame it' backstory to their photos.
Also, you got me smiling.
And...the remark about an assistant not having enough to do...
