I got stuck on the train on my way home tonight and missed the beginning, but did get a couple of shots right as the full eclipse was starting.

All the shots look good. I made a (poor) attempt at a couple photos as well. Not really happy with how mine turned out. Especially seeing these. Good shooting

Those look great, I did not see it as we had clouds covering it. Thanks for sharing. I see what I missed.

These are good, Gero. I did exactly the same thing, but mine aren't so good.

Unfortunately it was a little cloudy down here in Costa Rica - I do not have a tripod - my fastest and longest lens is my Nikkon 18-200VR f5.6.

Nikon D40 - 18-200 @ 200mm - - - - all heavily cropped obviously

What a view from my spot on the sidewalk at 11:00PM tonight (12:00PM eastern time) - I just about fell asleep for the night under the Costa Rican skies:

These are very good Gero. Thank you for posting them I barely had the opportunity to watch the eclipse due to cloud covering.

My shots look much like Roberts even with a tripod. I'm disappointed with what I captured.

Very well done, Gero and Bill. I, too, had a problem with clouds, and the moon was already gone half an hour before the total eclipse. Oh well, at least I can enjoy your pictures!

Wow. You guys are fast... Nice shots! We had a rare cloudless evening in Oregon, which made me happy, but no shots as nice as these...

Nowhere near as nice as Bill's collage above, but below is my best effort from tonight. Just a 300 f/4 and 1.4x on a 1DIII. I'm currently travelling and didn't have access to my longer lenses (400, 2x) but still enjoyed the show.

Well I went down to feed the horses & decided to check the moon as I had no idea at what time it was starting. It was already well on the way. Not that it mattered - - clouds made the moon hardly visible & that was that. Cloud cover....

So luckily I get to share it though you guys wonderful shots.

Great shots guys....

-10 degrees (F) here in MN, but I still managed to shoot the whole event. Here is a composite:

Alan, nice work! It was a little too cold for my tastes - only popped a few frames, but it was -15F or so when I shot with a -32F windchill here in ND. I had troubles trying to battle the wind. I even stood between a couple garages, but the tripod just would not cooperate with the wind.

Very nice sequence Alan. Very nice indeed!!

I just wish that I could have taken some shots as I had a very clear night with the moon appearing nice and close where I am (northern Alberta) but alas cataracts make it hard to truly do the best shooting

Once again nice work Alan and everyone!!

Since everyone is posting on Gero's thread, I'll follow suit. First time I've attempted something like this so there was a lot of guess work involved. None of my images were sharp. What would you consider a typical shutter speeds and aperture settings for moon shots - eclipse or not?

MaggieBee:

I tried my usual, which is f/8, ISO100, and 1/160 shutter on the moon last night, but that was definitely a no-go when over half of it was dark.

Here's a shot with my 30D + 300 2.8 + 1.4x TC. This is not even 100%, but I can't wait to get some longer lenses someday. At 100%, this shot is VERY VERY sharp and detailed. Even at this size, you can see the craters.

First real crack at shooting an eclipse......need to spend a little more time on the PP...and may have done the exposure different after seeing other examples.

Cold Michigan, 8 degrees

Maggie,
toward the end, my exposures were around 1/2 to 1 second at f/8-11. Otherwise, the shots were too dark and I got too much noise trying to bring out the details.
