What is the recommend software or plugin that I can use with Photoshop or Lightroom.
I am starting to take products photo for print catalog. I would like to remove all the backgrounds from the photo, so it will look nicer in the print catalog. I can take photo of the product at different color of background so the software can distinguish the products from the background.
Currently I have hundred of photos I have to manually and slowly remove from each photo and it very time consuming. May be there is easier solution.
This is where learning tabletop photography helps. Work with your background so it is pleasing. If you want to knock out backgrounds illuminate them so a magic wand function will take them out. Using tenting to smooth the light works wonders. There are a lot of books and articles on the subject. I'm in my office so I don't have direct references. Check out Dean Collins, he produced some fantastic desktop photography.
Just pay attention to lighting the back ground and have it so you can just magic wand the background, the standards besides white are blue and green (from video). Better still think about the background so you can use it.
I did a lot of work with Dean Collins type backgrounds, Google his name there are several hits. His videos are fantastic. Books I've used Photographing Still Life by Seth Joel, Lighting Secrets for the Professional Photographer, Alan Brown, Joe Braun, Tim Grondin, Secrets of Studio Still Life, Gary Perweiler. these all show how to maximize the look of your table top photography. Most show lighting setups and this really helps.
Jammy hit it right on the money, it is going to be easier to reshoot than outline especially if you can't just use the magic wand, that is the secret.
Is Aperture significantly better than iPhoto 8? This may be a stupid question, but iPhoto 8 is a pretty useful basic program, and I'm wondering if Aperture is worth the 200 bucks to upgrade from iPhoto 8.
