This site has quite some history…and it hasn’t had it’s first 100 year birthday yet.
Build in 1913 by brothers of the Franciscan Order, and about 600 mentally and physically disabled were living here until 1937.
During nazi goverment St Jozefsheim was used for “storing” disabled children. More than 30 childeren died here. The nazi’s moved out in 1943.
The Franciscan Order got their buildings back in 1952 but they soon sold it to the English militairy which used it as an hospital.
In 1963 St Jozefsheim got it’s, for now, finaly destination en was named “Kent School”. Almost 1500 kids got their lessons here, of whom more than 250 stayed at the boarding school, the others were transported here by bus.
The school remained open until 1992 and now the buildings are for sale...on ebay
