I need an info how to do color muting for editing purpose.
I like to try muting some pictures color, but i don't know how to do it in a correct way....
Well you can just lower the saturation (Hue/saturation) - best to do it on a duplicate layer then you can apply a mask and vary the amount of muting regionally - but resist selective color
Alternatively convert a the layer to black and white and reduce the opacity.
I assume you know how to lower the saturation slider in whatever software. What editing software are you using, PS? Are you talking about making colors less vibrant accross the whole image, or doing something like the ever popular "make the main subject vibrant and mute the rest" effect? There are several techniques, but need more info.
Adjustment Layers use the little icon in the bottom of the Layers Pallet the circle that is half black and half white to add adjustment layers over your image. These layers will not touch you image. Your Image will remain intact. These adjustment layer are very small they just record Photoshop Filter settings to apply to your image. These layers can be turned on and off. The adjustment layer menu list is partitioned in to several groups. One group starts with the BW adjustment layer. All the adjustment layer type in that group can tone or convert an image in some way. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/AdjustmentLayers.jpg
