just got ahold of a phoenix 100mm macro for my 10d off of ebay, and a starblitz automacro 1000 ring light (driven off of the PC) used for 40 bucks. Now to find little stuff to shoot pictures of

Good shots - slightly suprising quality from the lens and an excellent cheap way to start macro

Think one of the problems with a ringflash like that is I assume there is no way to vary the light power on one side of the flash unit (apart from perhaps masking it slightly) - just the even light tends to make the shots look slightly flat- great for stamps etc but not so good for textured/3-D shapes.

Thanks. i was suprised too with the lens. I read reviews where they said that using the 1:1 adapter gave them problems, but that doesnt seem to be the case with this example.

Yeah, this is a vary basic ring flash with out a lot of options, but it was cheap and I've about used up all the "but dear, I need it for this article I'm doing" excuses.

Now from looking at this forum, I need to find some bugs...
