p.1 #1 · *New Kodachrome Forum*

Hi gang,

I am about to launch the Kodachrome Project forums on my Kodachromeproject.com website and would like to get some outside input on what topics Kodachrome fans might like to see listed besides the obvious of history, technical, etc. For the foreseeable future, there will not be any fee to join the forums and I am hoping to add a user gallery by the Summer.

The reason I have been prompted to do this is that when I do a google search on Kodachrome now, out of 1.1 million results, my site comes up 8th. This means that the site already has high visibility in the search engine, so why not allow the photo community to chime in on what they want to talk about in regards to Kodachrome and the kodachrome era?

I want this to become a great site in which folks have a place to help come up with great ideas in which to foster the greater good of the Kodachrome Project. That way, even when the film is truly gone, there is still a great place to share stories, images and our love of Kodachrome.

Feel free to chime in...

You might want to include reciprocity charts on the different ISO emulsions.

How about addressing how in the heck to successfully scan the stuff with a somewhat older scanner (Polaroid SprintScan 4000, for example)?

You have one of those things also Jeff? I have the SS4000 SCSI... Love it but it is finicky. I have found that VueScan works the best.

Hey Duncan, I do indeed!

I haven't used it since getting away from SCSI computers, and I could never verify whether or not my OrangeMicro Grappler PCI SCSI card (for a G4-450) would work voltage-wise in a G5 or MacPro. I really need to get it figured out and start scanning again; I've got some good stuff in the archives that I'd like access to, but not enough to buy another scanner.

I never used VueScan, I used SilverFast, which seemed OK enough, though I didn't know what I know now. I'm guessing it would be a lot easier now, but I think Kodachrome doesn't scan well in the thing, but perhaps there are workarounds? I shot primarily 25 and 64, so most of my need for the scanner is for KC, unfortunately. Back when I bought it, the 'Kodachrome factor' was virtually unknown...

What about film users that don't necessarily use Kodachrome? Are we invited. I do sing that Paul Simon song often....

The site now better reflects a more global and celebration approach to this campaign and project. The forum software is on, but PHP needs to be up on my server, so I am a day or so away from the launch of the forums.

But keep an eye on it, things are moving fast....
