Not great quality, but what do you expect from a camcorder? Video quality is excellent and great seeing it on the TV. Not much control over the stills, since it is recording video at the same time.

How close were you to these birds...looks like art 60 mm u had to be really close...

60mm on a camcorder does not equal 60mm on a DSLR.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Camcorder stills have slowly gotten better over the years; these are quite good for a combo-device. How munch control do you have over the settings (Av, Tv, M...)?
