Noobs and Lurkers

Another lurker/noob here

For years I watched my parents play with their Minolta SLR (film but replacable chips)... loved seeing the world through those photos... but unfortunately could never afford to get involved. I did manage to get a few p/s cameras here and there over the years but honestly... did just that... Pointed it... and pressed the button on top .

After I sold my rental house last year and paid off the mortgage on mine... I decided after all these years... NOW was the time to learn this amazing thing called photography.

I've been watching these forums for some time (truly amazed at the work shown)... but have only had a d-slr since christmas and can't wait till the snow is gone to get outside and play (the -20C to -40C was hard on the fingers).

So... I'm learning... day by day... and hopefully soon I will have something worthy of posting here for critique and comments

G'day. found this place via a link from aus photography

moderately new to macro i guess (just what is new?) I use a nikon d40 with an old nikkor 55mm f/3.5 lens and either an extention tube or a 3x TC. works ok i guess but i have to meter and focus manually... a bit tricky i guess. I use a sigma ef500 dg super flash which i only recently aquired, much better than the pop-up, lol!

wish i could afford better gear of course but there ya go, most people do dont they?

Thanks, Tom for this thread. Not new to FM, but a lurker in this forum. Have gotten the Nikkor 105mm non-VR and love it. Did some closeups of large icicles, but not that great. Now, look forward to practice on some plants and insects. When I get some decent shots, will start to post here.

The great work in this forum, as your thread here, is an incentive. Thanks, all-

Best,

Alan

Hello fellow Mirrandans. I recently bought a 5D and the glass listed below. With respect to Macro photography I like to shoot flowers. Specifically Washington state Tulllips. Im learning so please be gentle.... Do many people shoot macro with filters? Any other specific help I could get would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Created an account 2 years ago, maybe longer. I lurked for a bit, got some deals on used equipment, then interests took me elsewhere for a bit. I just started lurking again and will hopefully get back out there and start shooting again. Coming here just helps me get motivated.

I'm a Noob/Lurker...

Well, I was interested when I visited a junior college (I'm still in high school, two more months before I graduate), it caught my attention to see a lot of the photographers having fun with photo taking...I'm taking photography NOT only for the fun times though, but it will save me good memories soon to come that I will capture and keep not only in my mind but also in my photos...

Hello..I signed up a couple years ago. I comeback every once in a while to read the gear reviews.

I guess I can start being active in the forums.

Hi all, Lurker here too. I've been interested in Macro photography for many years but not until recently had the gear again to make some pictures. I just picked up a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and remembered just how much fun macro photography can be.

Iv'e been lurking here for a while. I didn't have what I needed to take a good macro shot until now. I just bought a Canon XSI and have a few lenses from my 300D rebel.

I have had the camera for a few days now and the shots are getting better as I get used to the camera. I hope to start getting shots like I have seen here many times.

Mostly a lurker, but I've been involved in photography for 45 years (since I was five). Macro has been an interest of mine for about 25 years. I'm currently using a 20D and Sigma 150/2.8 Macro, but I still have my Canon F-1n and FD 200/4 Macro. It doesn't see a lot of use, but I dust it off from time to time and put a few rolls of film through it.

I've been a lurker for a while. One reason That I have not posted is that I live in a very rural area and don't have access to high speed internet ( with the possible exception of satelite ). My macro experience goes back almost 40 years with a Canon 50 mm macro and a Pellix and Ftb. After that I purchased a Vivitar Series 1 90mm macro with a dedicated 1:1 adaptor and many other Canon bodies ( F1, New F1, AE1, A1, T90 (my favorite). This was one of the best lenses I have ever used. I still have my Canon auto bellows ( with EOS adaptor ) and a Tamron 90mm macro, 40D, and 5D. My favorites shots are wilflowers ( and the life that dwells on them ).

Been a lurker for a while here. Still a Noob to photography all around (got my XTi last year once my dad convinced me to go digital instead of Film). Love Macro and B/W pictures and I'm in the process of looking for an ef-s 60mm. Once I have one I'll be posting in here (once I get the basics down that is).

I have been looking around on the boards for a while, but haven't taken the plunge into macro photography beyond a set of close-up filters. This one of a dandelion was taken with a stacked set of filters (+4, +2, +1).

I still have a long way to go, but seeing some of the shots you guys and gals get is inspiring and making me think that a true macro lens might be in my near future.

I am new and as I look around the forum at all the talent I realize that I have alot to learn and much improvement to gain before I dare post a pic. I have only the kit lenses that came with my Canon 400D and to me they are fantastic after using point and shoot cameras. I really want to get into Macro but, do not have the funds (or the experience) to purchase and make efficient use of a "real" macro setup. So for now I will ask a few questions, read A LOT of posts and try to absorb all I can form others. Thanks for the forum. I have been on others and often was either ignored when asking questions or given smart remarks (although some of them were kinda funny). Seems this may be a more friendly place in general.

Hi!
Guilty of lurking. I tend to just look at the great photography around here and hope to get inspired and learn something. I have done a bit of macro photography and have posted it to deviantArt. Deviant art is a nice community, but a HUGE one and one doesn't get much informative criticism when one posts there... on this forum, however, i've been a little freaked about the opposite! :P points of view seem to be very strong, and criticism can get pushed to its extremes (not always, but occaisionally). I use a nikon 80-400 vr with Canon 500D and sb600 on tripod for lighting.

I'm new here, tho not new elsewhere
I'm a long-term resident of Japan, and have done macro to some degree for years, but haven't been very serious about it until recently. I like a lot of the work I see here, though, so I'd like to get more involved. Here's a recent shot I did of a young grasshopper hiding in a fleabane bloom; unfortunately one petal is too close to the eye, but it shows a bit what I'm interested in:

I am pretty new to FM. I love macro work and really appreciate the talent that it takes to get a crisp pic that close in to a subject. I dont really have the money to get into it too much at the moment, as I am a student and own a film camera. This may not seem like a huge deal, but processing is expensive on my budget

I'm new to the forum, and have never made 'proper' Macro shots before, in fact I've only just ordered the Canon 100 EF f2.8. Can't wait My recent purchase of a 40D has fired me up to start being serious about what shots I take, and how, and why, although I've been waving various cameras in front of my face for more years than I care to admit.

I am in awe of the images I see posted here: the knowledge, experience, technique and patience involved is phenomenal. I doubt I'll be taking any bug shots though: looking at pics is very different to having to get up close and personal!
