p.1 #1 · Velvel FA Paper - Printable Side?

I am new to using the Epson Velvet FA paper. According to the instruction, the whiter side of the paper is the printable side. I have been trying to view the paper under all kind of lighting and there is no way that I can tell which side is whiter. Making matters worse, the texture of both sides are almost identical too. The only I can be sure is when the print comes out. Any suggstions will be appreciated. My eyes must be gone !!! Thanks.

Stephen,

As you take the paper out of the cellophane wrapper--which would have had an info sheet on top--the side that comes out facing you is the right side. Its very difficult to tell which is which if you've taken it out and didn't pay attention. The right side is slightly whiter (the coating) and has a bit more texture. If you can hold one sheet against another, you will see the difference in good light.

Hope this helps.

If you touch a side with a damp finger and you feel a slight stick when you pull it away, that is the printable side. Just leave the sheets in the box in that orientation and that should be the last test you have to do. Tony

Thank you, guys. That was my problem that I took the paper out of the clear envelop and did not remember which side was facing the instruction sheet. I really had a hard time telling which side is 'whiter'. The suggestion of using the 'moist sticky' finger trick works well. It reminds of using the same trick in the good old color darkroom on glossy paper. Appreciate the help.
