p.2 #1 · 7D confirmation??

Hi Matt,

I'm sorry that my post made you feel so defensive, that was certainly not my intent. I am far from being expert and I'm a lousy photographer. I was only suggesting that you have an opportunity to differentiate yourself by proving that you actually take pictures. That's strictly up to you.

For what it’s worth, there is a difference between treating someone respectfully (with common courtesy) and having genuine respect for them.

In my world, real respect is earned – not automatic. You may have a different view.

Wait, is this dpreview or not? I'm confused. This thread sure sounds like dpreview.

Perhaps certain phrases should be banned... such as "blow xxx out of the water", which AFAIK can have nothing to do with photography but everything to do with brand wars.

Back on topic... I highly doubt Canon will release a new FF camera for under $2K. After all, why would they? Apart from the 5D, the next cheapest FF body is $5K.

Marc,

Here is where my confusion lies. Why must I prove I actually take pictures in order to post information that I came across? In other words, if I had posted a sample of my work beneath the original post, that would give credit to the post? As for your use of the word 'respect' possibly another word would seem better fit such as 'admiration', which in this case would make more sense. Judging the amount of respect for any one person is gained through knowing, and as far as I know, you don't know me. Before any degree of heightened respect is gained, I should hope that one man would give another an equal amount until proven otherwise. That is my view at least. And TBH, I don't really see how respect applies in this situation anyhow.

Matt,

I have caused this to go way off topic, so I will politely back out of this conversation with my apologies.

Matt, I see nothing wrong with your 1st post. It's just information sharing and I personally appreciate that. I can take this information and either believe it or not, but that's my choice. That is the beauty of the internet...information sharing. It is you 2nd post which l take exception with. The statement about "Hopefully it will blow the D300 out of the water." has been cropping up too much lately. Why cannot we just discuss the merits of all systems without having to bring in any notion of "fanboyism". There has been too many heated discussions with both Nikon and Canon as the main topics. Having reread your 2nd post I believe I understand what you meant by that phase in that if the next gen 5D competes against the D300 on a feature base and yet is FF, we will have a great camera. Maybe a better choice of wording would have been wise.

I hope the "dust removing system" shaking won't affect the AF

Back to the original topic.

The replacement for the 5D will not stay at the existing 12.8mp.
Not only is there no precedent for this, it would be marketing suicide.
It will probably be 16mp, since we know from the 1DsMkII that sensor works.
I would imagine it will have the latest evolutions of their sensor technology with micro lens changes, 14bit, Digic III.

The higher ISO, at least 6400 will be a given with the current evolution & the competition.
The staple functions/features will include
Live View
Sensor Clean
Function/folder menu system.

Probably some improvement in AF, at least the 40D system, but not likely the 1D system

Of course, we know nothing till it is announced.

Man I LOVE these posts that get my hopes up but when I click them it's just reposted rumors from three months ago that aren't even very believable in the first place.

Well, that is an improvemnt of sorts, if AF works reliably. I've little doubt that the AF zones will be horrifically placed as in the 5D.

The possibility that canon may release the 7D for just under or around the 2K mark doesn't seem that far off base. As of now competition between DSLR developers has become tight and it's only time before technology becomes cheaper in order to appeal the pro-sumer market. I am by no means saying that it is definite, but it is a possibility. If it does go for the low 2k mark, there is also a possibility that Canon may keep some of the same specs from the 5D, specifically pixel count and fps, the same or slightly higher than its predecessor, while making an upgrade to a Digic III processor, Live View, and dust vibration which in the end may entice many to upgrade like they did from the 20/30D's to the 40D. I believe the reason they won't give the extra fps or mp's to the 7D is so they don't start competition between the Mark 1 series bodies by increasing the 7D's pixel count to 16mp for example, ultimately making the Mark 1 series seem like a minor upgrade, to the average buyer, for a whole lot more cash. But this is all merely speculation and I could be entirely off.

It will only be activated as soon as the camera is powered on and just after it is shut off, and not while in use.

It was reported more than 12 months ago that Canon might split the 5D line into two, with a 7D essentially being what the 5D is now (updated with the usual stuff like the 40D gets) and a far better featured 5D II (3D?). This would allow a the price of the FF to be offered at a much lower point than the 5D, and still leave room for a more expensive model for those that want the lot. Since then Nikon have come on in leaps and bounds and Canon has no choice but to offer better features at lower price points.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a $2K 7D and a $3K 5D II.

I stopped reading when I read this...who in their right mind would be a Packers fan? As a Bronco fan myself, I will simply bow out of the conversation with two words: "Superbowl XXXIII" *Ducks impending cheesehead crush from chez*

Seriously though - glad to see the resurgence of discussion revolving around photography rather than the pixel peeping, gear drooling that was making some appearances lately (not just this thread).

Back on topic - someone else also alluded to it upthread - the sooner vendors come out with newer models, the sooner the 40D will drop in price even further (PMA can't get here fast enough! )

Who the hell would watch NFL - rugby is a real man's game. None of that body armour and helmet crap and fitting the game around TV commercials. Sheesh 4 hours to see 10 minutes of real action. And big pansies being payed 100 squillion dollars. The only good thing I've seen at a superbowl is Janet Jackson's boob.

M Vers

This information about the 5D can't be true.

"-3.0 " 640×480 TFT LCD (920,000 pixels)"

The screens on the D3 and D300 are 307,000 pixels. How is it possible to triple that?

5 fps? A bit slow don't you think, compared to it has fewer pixels than the 5D and a much faster processor.

They'll announce it when they'll do that. No problem to wait a few weeks.
