If I want 2 images open at the same time, next to each other I select one of them in bridge and "Shift" select the other one and drag them into PS or just double click on one of them.
Whoops! Shift click only if they are adjacent in bridge. Selecting one and then Shift-selecting another farther away will highlight everyone in between. I just drag one into PS, go back and select -drag another and the second one usually lands on top of the other. I select the "reduce size box" so they both fit on the work area.
Hope I got it right this time. I can do it easily but describing it is anothe new ball game.

Since I got CS3 I can't open 2 images side by side as I did in CS2. Can someone tell me how?
You didn't say if they were RAW files or tiffs, jpegs, etc. Either way, you can simply hold down your Ctrl key (if PC), select your images, right click and choose open in PSCS3--all will open. If they are RAW files, they will all open in ACR--where after processing, you can 'select all', click on open and they will all open in PS.
Hope this helps and is what you are having problems doing.
