i deleted software to the trash, installed software etc...coming from windows...and used to the uninstall option...and now putting the software in the trash instead...
how do i clean up my harddrive?...is there any easy way or software to clean up un necessary files?
There really isn't much to worry about. Other than some text files in preferences or application support. Mac Applications are largely self contained. What looks like an "application" is really a folder containing all the bits associated with the program.
You can type the name of the program in the search window of the finder... This will give you all the files related to the program (simply drag them to the trash bin). Sometimes it is useful to delete the pkg files from the receipts folder. For instance, LR can't be re-installed if you don't remove the related pkg file from the receipts folder.
A few programs have an "uninstall" option in their installer. But as beerguy says, usually just trashing the application or application folder is all you need to do. Nothing left behind will interact harmfully with other programs.
If you're trying to get every last bit of disk space, go to the /Library/Application Support folder and look for folders with the name of the programs you trashed. That's where various other support files are stored. But if you accidentally trash the wrong stuff it could screw something up, so be careful.
Deleting the application package is generally enough. If you'd like to get rid of absolutely everything, including preference files, try http://appzapper.com/
