Hi Ttown,

I stumbled on it last night. The Sony 1000 is the first POV cam that performs as I had hoped. When you view the clips (not even on a 4K screen) the color and clarity just knock you over. Kind of the same emotion I felt when I opened up the first D800 file, you just go...."Yes! This is what it should look like!" I'm ordering a couple more 100's tomorrow.

So, what I determined last night, and it's a bit of a bulky solution but it will work for me, is that I can connect a Mophie Juice Pack with a micro usb cable. The smallest Mophie unit should power the camera for hours and hours. The extra bulk won't be a problem in the Cub, or in the T38 application. I'm going to run a test tomorrow. I'm using 64GB SDXC cards, but I think I should go to 128GB if I have that battery capacity.

What tipped me off was that the 1000 has a battery charger that can charge the battery out of the camera and there's a micro usb cord on the side that allows in camera charging. I did a little more research and found that you have to go into the menu and select external power to utilize a source like the Mophie, do that and you are golden for quite a while.

I use the 12,800 mah Mophie units for my iPad and the CamRanger and they are great. Now I have to figure out a way to secure the Mophie to the POV mount, or use a long micro usb cord and keep the battery in the Cub. Th eT38 won't be a problem as well just secure the battery in the cockpit and route the cord neatly to the camera.

Thanks Jim! sounds like a plan that should work. We have been playing around with different POV cams and were discussing the battery life on the Sony last week. I will pass this along.

This has been making the rounds on different forums. It seems one of the Easter Eggs in the new Star Wars trailer is Harrison Ford's PT-22 crashed next to the imperial star destroyer. I haven't been able to see it myself, but here's a screen grab someone else took.

Seems like the battery life is about 40 minutes rolling 4K at 29.97, maybe just a bit less. Not great, especially without the optional remote because you burn 15 minutes getting to the take off roll.

The Sony's form factor is much more practical than my GoPros.

Hello everyone!

Well I finally managed to take the Canon 11-24 for a proper spin and use it what I bought it for... tiny, small cockpits and similar spaces.

All I can say, I am impressed - awesome lens and outstanding quality.

I enjoyed your blog post with the glacier flying photos, but the ones you posted here don't show up: I get "content protected by owner" errors in their place.

Florian,

Great blog post. The shots with the polariser on are amazing. Such deep blues and crisp whites.
