I stumbled on it last night. The Sony 1000 is the first POV cam that performs as I had hoped. When you view the clips (not even on a 4K screen) the color and clarity just knock you over. Kind of the same emotion I felt when I opened up the first D800 file, you just go...."Yes! This is what it should look like!" I'm ordering a couple more 100's tomorrow.
So, what I determined last night, and it's a bit of a bulky solution but it will work for me, is that I can connect a Mophie Juice Pack with a micro usb cable. The smallest Mophie unit should power the camera for hours and hours. The extra bulk won't be a problem in the Cub, or in the T38 application. I'm going to run a test tomorrow. I'm using 64GB SDXC cards, but I think I should go to 128GB if I have that battery capacity.
What tipped me off was that the 1000 has a battery charger that can charge the battery out of the camera and there's a micro usb cord on the side that allows in camera charging. I did a little more research and found that you have to go into the menu and select external power to utilize a source like the Mophie, do that and you are golden for quite a while.
I use the 12,800 mah Mophie units for my iPad and the CamRanger and they are great. Now I have to figure out a way to secure the Mophie to the POV mount, or use a long micro usb cord and keep the battery in the Cub. Th eT38 won't be a problem as well just secure the battery in the cockpit and route the cord neatly to the camera.
