There's nothing like ripping a new toy out of the packaging.

....and a shot taken from the old toy for TOPP.

Wow, congratulations Steve! I was hoping we'd see some unboxing photos soon.

Is that a carbon fiber prop? Very cool.

Mark

Thanks, Mark. The prop is very cool, indeed: wood-and-epoxy core with two layers of carbon fiber cloth, and a molded-in polyurethane wear strip; and it's a constant-speed prop, too.

It won some NASA challenges for efficiency a few years back; and that was before they offered the injected Rotax engine, which is reputed to be about 25% more fuel efficient than the normally aspirated version. With the constant speed prop I'm supposed to get 147 knots at 3.7 gph. Webesee.

Steve, are you going to leave the NASA 'Meatball' on your plane? Does it come off?

edit: Guess I should explain why I asked. Over 25 years ago when I began working in the NASA environment I saw the organization move from research and development to buying commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) technology. We were told to avoid new design and development when there was a COTS solution. So I guess it is appropriate for NASA to identify good COTS endeavors.

Hey, this is hardly rocket science!

I told the factory not to apply the advertising stickers (the ones on the other side of the nose are even more obnoxious) and they agreed, but then they 'forgot' and stuck them on anyway. I think I'll offer to leave the stickers on for a hefty fee; otherwise they're coming off.

The Sinus Flex goes to a new owner in Oregon. He saved a bunch of money having it shipped here in the same container, instead of solo to the Pacific Northwest.

We're still wondering where all the spare bits go. eBay?

It'll be a month or two before we can get an airworthiness certificate: I am suffering from bureaupathy.

Nice shot Bryan. For such a low time guy, he sure flew the hell out of that Mustang. I very very briefly met Ray at Wings Over Houston this year. He seemed like a really cool guy who loved flying these airplanes. I commented to him that he sure wasn't afraid to let the Mustang run, and was able to quickly show him a few shots I fired off of him during the show. I'm glad I got to share that with him, albeit briefly.

Nice shots Brian and Randy. Stories like that a just a bit close to home in a number of ways. Guess it boils down to Garth's lyrics............we can miss the pain, but to do that, we'd have to miss the dance. My friend Johnny Rutherford said it in the eulogy he gave at our buddy Charlie Hilliard's funeral, "If you don't crawl out to the edge of the envelope every once in a while, life get's a little boring."
