You may have noticed my photos are gone. I renamed my photo site "Ray Swindle Pix", which breaks the link. Slowly completing modifications. Anyway, just wanted to let you know in case you looked back and saw a blank frame.

One of my favorites...forever thankful Glenn!

That's one of the best ever Wrei! A perfect case of preparation meeting opportunity. Wait til you are back up there shooting with your new gear. Did you look at the new 300 from Nikon? The advancements in glass technology and coatings may make the investment in a 300/2.8 unnecessary. I preordered one so we'll see.

Yes, last year I bookmarked Nikon Rumors/Nikon web pages when I began considering the D800. The 300 is really small compared to the Canon version thanks to the DO lens. I will be watching the reviews. I thought it was funny people were complaining about it not having a tripod foot, yet it weighs less than the D810.

Looks very likely that a RED system is in my future. I have been thinking about which mount I should order it in. I suppose it makes the most sense to go with Canon because of the variety of Canon glass I have. If Canon ever does actually produce and release a large MP body, I'm reasonably sure that I'll put a couple of them in my system, so I'll be shooting two brands for the duration. Good news about the RED gear is that you can easily change lens mounts for a few bucks, the stuff is amazing.

Anyone gone to the Zacuto site recently? They have a couple of new products that are pretty incredible. Their new "Gratical" OLED viewfinder would be a great addition for air to air cinema accuracy. The adaptability of their rigs just continues to get better and better too.

Tell you what Ray, because of the redundancy I have, that lens won't be a workhorse for me. I'll loan it to you and you can see for yourself. Which actually might not be a favor..................

The 70-200 VRII lens foot fits the 300 and it's available as a $169.00 option. I got it just because I'm used to feet on my tele's

I'm real curious what you all think about that lens. My 300/2.8 is both my favorite and my workhorse lens. I use it far and away more than any other lens I have.

Hi Erich,

I agree, both the Canon and Nikon versions have long been two of the greatest lenses ever. I have read and seen so much great stuff on that lens, for the price, it's worth a look. Several of the people who have shot with it mentioned the bokeh and shallow depth of field being "2.8 like" I think due to the shape of the iris blades and the updated glass and coating technology. If it was Canon, I'd just make a phone call and one would show up to try, but my Nikon connections have all retired. For a couple grand it's worth a look and, even if it's not a 2.8 (realistically I doubt it can be) it might just be great enough to have.

Thanks for the link Jo, fun to watch.

A side note, did you know that it takes almost a year to order and receive a truly custom Aston? There really aren't a tremendous number of "floor models". They pride themselves on the customer picking the colors, hides for the interior and every slight detail, so your Aston is "your" Aston.

And, in light of my experience today, that is a little scary. I ordered Sheila a new car, which came in on Saturday. They were tinting windows and adding a couple of customizations in make ready today. When we walked in Lexus to take delivery, my sales guy's phone rang and he looked like a deer in the headlights. The phone call was to tell him that an air hose had just danced across the front fender of Sheila's new wheels. Many apologies and a frenzied computer search found one more in the country that matched her car, and it was just being unloaded from the boat in Long Beach. All in all, not one of life's huge let downs, but then it wasn't a one of a kind Aston that had been a year in the making either. Ahhh the conundrum of "stuff", it begins deteriorating before the paint is dry, it's Biblical
