Funny part of it is that I thought it could be Barrel at first too, so I went back and checked it out.

This image is a full width shot, cropped some dark water off the bottom, but the strange part of it to me is that the light to the right hand side of the frame is still bending right...it's a head scratcher.

Steve2, is this latest one a single frame or a stitched pano?

That one is a single frame.

Is the water flowing from left to right? Could have something to do with it, distorting the reflections in the direction of the flow?

Light doesn't care what direction the water's flowing. I'm really puzzled by this.

Was it bent in real life? I am guessing not. I do notice that the first part of the reflection is straight. Alan is wondering about temperature or density changes?

I didn't see a bend in real time. Not that I was looking for one.

As for temperature it was chilly. Slightly above freezing.

Maybe not, but I'm wondering if over the long exposure different parts of the river flowing at different speeds created ripples with progressively increasing angles to produce the bend in the reflected light.

Whatever it is, love the image.

I realized from the start that this film I'm spearheading is going to be a monumental collaborative venture. Styling my career over the past 34 years as an agile one man band creates a habit/thought process set that won't work in a project like the one I'm facing, at least not to achieve the final product that I envision. There are so many facets to this production that I find myself researching a myriad of subjects, from equipment to cinematography, cinematographers, directors, post processing, platforms, story boarding, and a dozen other things.

I joined the "Red" community and have spent the last week pouring over the information and resources there. I have an upcoming meeting with the boys at Chino to discuss platforms, largely B25 related, and to get up to speed on any special tricks of the trade they may be able to share. Then to Hawthorne to get familiar with Dan Wolfe and his team and technology. Obviously I love what I do on a daily basis, but I find myself waking up in the middle of the night brainstorming this project and other opportunities that will most certainly spring from it. This morning my eyes popped open at about 3:30 and my mind was going full tilt, it's been along time since I was this challenged and excited about an opportunity. I'm hoping that an old dog can teach himself some new tricks!

Here's something cool I found in my research, thought you all might enjoy it...........

Thought you might like it Jan Arie! There are a number of great resources out there for platforms. I just need to meet the people and begin putting our team together.

Good point about the time exposure: how long was it, Steve2? Another theory: maybe a wind shift in the bottom third of the frame created the necessary surface roughness the shift the angle of reflection by a degree or two?

Here is a group that we will use for some of our footage. Jake mentioned them a few posts ago. I would have the option of learning their system and getting comfortable, or delegating the capture to one of their able crew. Y'all probably have an inkling of how that will go. Anyway, pretty incredible resource. This is going to be a lot of fun and a whole new experience.

They're about as good as it gets eh? I know a couple Wolfe Air Lear pilots - its a sweet system. I caught a glimpse of a T-38 in that demo reel too! What an awesome airframe.

Hi Glenn,

They used to be a bit restricted as far as perspectives, but they got an STC for hard points under the Lear wing. Now they can mount the camera pod out under the wing which gives the cinematographer more flexibility.

I think we are going to do a companion piece on "The Making of......." so there's probably a good bit of video work for someone who knows their stuff and can live by our mantra....."Flexibility Is The Key To Air Power", and photography/videography!

It was a 25 second exposure.
On another note, BC Place (the big stadium far left) favorited it on flickr, so I guess that's good? :P

BTW, thee is no comparison between Gigapan 3.7/4.0 Beta and CS6, Dreamweaver, or any of the other programs I have tested. It's definitely a pro level program. Thanks for helping me navigate to the site I could read.

Happy New Year!
