I love all three of these images Steve, but #3 is especially well seen and achieved.

Thanks, Jeff! I spent more time on #3 than the others; a pack of tourists was about to walk into the frame as I lifted my camera for the second image!

Well Jim, they have figured out how to forecast the sunrise and sunset, the rest is why they are called weather guessers...

Here is an interesting link about the use (misuse?) of Spitfires during WW2. Interesting that it was Norwegians involved, it seems like something some of my fellow Australians would ha got up to.

I've downloaded my manuals to my iPad. Works great as you can zoom in on them, and you can take them anywhere.

Woke up to an early Christmas present this morning. I took part in the Kelby Online World Wide Photowalk in October. As part of this, everyone is encouraged to enter 1 image from the day to upload and enter into a competition.
While I got nowhere in the main competition, it was a nice surprise to see that the walk leader for the walk I went on selected my image as the favourite from those who participated in the walk. My prize for this - a years subscription to Kelby One. 😃
Well chuffed with that.

By the way, did anyone else see that Peter Lik's B&W photo of Antelope Canyon recently sold to a private buyer for $6.5 million? That ain't chicken feed, folks.

Clearly, I lack the self-promotion gene. But I do think it unkind, nay offensive, of the critic quoted in the piece, who dismisses B&W photography as a 'deliberate use of an outmoded style'. Them's fighting words, IMHO.

I've seen literally hundreds of stunning photographs of Antelope Canyon by equally talented photographers. Lik's image is notable primarily for its subtext: he must have had an assistant positioned at the rim of the canyon throwing dirt (or flour) into the shaft of sunlight.

Color me skeptical, but why is it that such mega-deals in the art world are always (and only) announced from the artist's side of the ledger?

I smell PR stunt (just in time for the holiday shopping crunch .. even the idle rich have last minute gifts to buy.)

These five film pictures were shot on Kodak Ektar 100 with a Fuji GSW690II and on Kodak Portra 160 with a Pentax 6x7.

Well yes I did. I'm not worried about the price paid for the photo – it's worth whatever someone is prepared to pay. Have to say I'd need to be worth a LOT of money before I'd drop $M6.5 on a nice photo of antelope canyon. Oh, did you see the bit about a 950 piece “limited edition”? I had a smile at that.

As for “deliberate use of an outmoded style”. Is the guy saying B&W is a style? Well using that logic – how could it not be deliberate? Did the critic harbour the idea that Lik hit the convert to B&W button by mistake? Oh, and is the critic implying that all that B&W work made before colour was a practical proposition, is now outmoded?

So all that said – here is my bargain basement offer – must be worth $6.5?
