Jeff's been posting the splendid B&W images he's contributed to the Five Day B&W Challenge now rolling around FB. So much more congenial than the late, unlamented Ice Bucket Challenge. Here are the five images I contributed during the Challenge, during which I passed the torch to Jeff and four other photographers.

Just spent an hour shooting aerials in some of the most beautiful air of 2014. Just try to get a helicopter here in "Ebola Central" The administration has done what it is best at, tell us everything is fine, nothing to see here, don't worry. The media is doing what it does and every helo in the area is booked to shoot the never ending same perspective on Presby Hospital. Fortunately I have a connection and they bumped some news guy so I could go capture something that actually helps the economy.

Common sense, nope, don't close our border (for a dozen reasons), and absolutely don't curtail flights from where the disease is ravaging the population.

Jim,

That is a front 3/4 elevation shot. Move to the right to get the front elevation. The building extends further that way. I have will have access to all lights interior and exterior for the final shoot. Thanks for the help!

Great shots and vision Zim!

Well I feel badly that we can't do our traditional HQ Thursday, so to make up for a little of that, we've arranged a Thunderbird performance for you on Thursday, and there will be a B52 arrival a little later. We'll go somewhere south of the field and have lunch together too. It will be a little different, but I needed to be available for the inevitable spur of the moment ops that will most certainly take place............or not...........

The 5K display certainly does make you think about 4K video. My new Son X-180 is not 4K. I finally decided, with a great deal of valuable counsel from Rob (Yip-Dog), that 4K is not that important to my efforts in the near term. The hours and hours of research I've done, and Rob's very kind and knowledgeable help have convinced me that the 180 is going to be a fantastic tool for a while, it arrives Tuesday from B&H. I may set up the new iMac strictly as a video editing station and not clutter it with all the other imaging software that fills my typical task bar.

So since I couldn't make Alliance I figured I might try to make Nellis' Open House...I think someone made a mistake on their performers list, as currently the Aerial Demonstration list looks like someone's wet dream air show:

A-10 Warthog
A6M Zero
AT-6 Texan
B-1 Lancer
B-25 Mitchell
BO-105 Helo plus Jumpers (Red Bull)
CJ-6 Yak
C-45 Expeditor
F4U Corsair
F8F Bearcat
F-15E Eagle
F-16 Falcon
F-22 Raptor
F-35 Lightning
F-86 Sabre
HH-60 Pave Hawk
Heritage Flight
L-39 Albatross
P-51 Mustangs
U.S. Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron

Couple planes on there I really can't see doing demos...lol

Thanks Steve & Jim for the kind words. I love when a black and white image is well-crafted and Steve' work is without peer. Today's effort.

Hi Billy,

What direction does the elevation that you show in your image face? Exterior lighting timers and sensors are always a pain in the neck. See if you can get someone to override the timer for you and turn everything on an hour before you think you might need it. Based upon what you tell me direction wise, I might have some help for you.

I completely misread your question (I think)! The building faces south. That is the sun rising in the right portion of the image.

Steve,

The based units from the weapons school have been launching stuff in previous years. If you look for pics of last years show, a lot of that stuff flew.

A week or so ago I posted a link to a YouTube video of the cyclist Danny McAskill mountain biking along a ridge line in Scotland.
I watched a documentary on the making of the video and observed the following:

Aerials were shot from what appeared to be a DJI S1000 premium. A LUMIX G10 was used to film the aerial sequences.

Close up video was shot on what appeared to be a 5D3 mounted to a Movi frame.

Longer range video was shot on an EOS cine camera (C100 or such, not sure exact model) with a 70-200 2.8 & possibly a 2X TC.

Dear Billy,

Then you have the option of shooting that elevation in the pre-dawn or evening twilight at your location in these United (?) States. When faced with that option, I generally go with evening because you kind of know what the skies conditions are. South face is good, but not as good for horizon post sunset "bounce" light like a west face. Anyway, with the exterior lighting coordinated, you should be fine.

Two of our Grandchildren came home today with the news that four children in their school were on the Ohio to Dallas flight with the nurse. Not believing a single thing the CDC or the administration has to say about this disease, it's easy to see where this gets out of hand in a hurry. Until we go a month without anyone new showing up with it, I'm not buying any of what these boneheads are selling.
