I have nothing against deflected control surfaces, in any kind of photography. They do help to indicate motion. I will share Erich's preference for avoiding flaps/slats where possible, as they modify a large part of the wing surface and can materially change its appearance.

For some reason, I have a personal dislike for images that show the gear in transit, but neither fully up nor down and locked. I don't know where it came from, and I have a hunch it's not a common preference.

Not aircraft but at least at the airport!
Chieftain parked near the heli hangars at FFZ.
We were supposed to shoot with some of the Falcon Warbirds planes but they got blocked in their hangar due to a few CAF planes needing to hide from the massive storms we got.
Jay and I had fun anyway...

Thanks for the replies guys.

When it was said that we try to avoid them if possible, because it modifies the appearance, etc. What is ment by that?

Sound like it contradicts the fact that having flight controls are okay?

Kind regards

Steven

He was making a distinction between control surfaces (ailerons, elevator, rudder) and lift/drag-modification devices like flaps slats, spoilers and dive brakes.

Hi everyone Sorry I don't have any recent photos to show, I have had many of life's other commitments to tend to.

I have also been having great fun flying my hexcopter and making some videos...

I know that several of you have quads (DJI Phantoms etc), I discovered a neat app for iOS & Android. great fun but so realistic it's good for practice... even when indisposed by nature
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Creativeworld.QuadcopterFXpro

The pro is about the price of a cup of coffee... Have fun

The two I was asking about are up high near the rim on the side facing you; those are pillboxes/gun emplacements?

In the CC department: I can't see that photo, beautiful as it is, without wishing for a little less sky and a little more ocean. The play of breakers at the base of the crater would really ground the composition.

Thanks for the feedback...I took many pictures, and just posted the first one that jumped out at me. Here's one from sunrise this morning

The Gore Range is one of Colorado's most rugged, with steep, U-shaped, glacially carved valleys leading out from the ridge line to the east and west. Shot from 13,500' atop the ridge, looking east.

No bottled oxygen in this case, Wrei. We have a natural advantage when it comes to altitude flying, living as we do at 5000'. But I don't spend much time above 12,500' if I can help it.

Great light and backgrounds Glenn! Was going to call you tonight when I finished my dusk shot. Another one of those scenarios where I'm ending a 14 hour day with a dusk shot, hosing down walkways, being eaten by mosquitos, and after all the prep work is done, the landscape lights didn't come on. If I had a nickel for every time I was assured the checklist for photography had been complied with, I'd be on the fantail of my yacht. Makes me so darn mad. I just packed everything up and headed for Saltgrass and on to the hotel. I guess I'll call the client first thing in the am and see if they want to spend another three grand for me to wait around for them to fix the lights. This isn't rocket science, but it seems like this has happened a hundred times in my tenure as a pro shooter, I don't get it.
