Word is 232 is for sale as is after it's catastrophic engine failure. One has to wonder why Mr. Lewis, who has more money than all of us combined could hope to spend, went on the cheap with 232. The plane used to be equipped with telemetry, which may have seen the lean condition which led to the engine meltdown. It was ripped out. The 232 team does not have the budget that Rare Bear does, which makes no sense, when money is of no concern.

232's 3350 comes with the ultra rare slow nose case. This is a must for Reno. A 3350 can not put out enough power to win Reno with a standard nose case.

Tim, if there's one thing I have learned over the years, it's that you cannot figure out, or predict the wealthy.

Hi Tim:

Personally not a big fan of the air races - i want to be and I try to be but i just find them so darn boring. However your depth of knowledge and insight into the inner working of it all is always very interesting.

Jim:

would love to meet up and discuss sensor cleaning. At this time no amount of money would be too much to have a clean sensor.

Speaking of wealthy, the same guy owns both of these. I think he may have impulse bought the Hatz at Oshkosh this year just because it "matched" his beautiful Waco.

Thanks. No problem there. Perhaps if you saw them in person it would change. There is no way to replicate a Mustang over 100"

Hi Tim:

I've been to them - Nadya and I rode a Goldwing up from LA to Reno in 2007 planning to spend 3 days there. We split after the first day. Maybe now it would be different knowing some people, and we didnt go into the pits so that might be where the action really is. There is always next year - Is it tough to get out on a pylon? We tried driving around the neighborhood off to the edge of the airport but there were cops running us off if we stopped, and no parking signs everywhere.

Sweet venue for an airshow. Did you go to Hawaii just for the show?

Glen,

Glad to know that doesn't only happen to us mortals! Now we know our mentors are human too!

Still very nice,

They are cutting back on access, but with your portfolio I think you would have a good chance of getting credentials.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Is that the same corsair that turned over in Atlanta earlier this year?

I'm with you Glenn. Went once with unlimited access. I was the guest of Lyle Shelton and Tiger. I spent the week, and it was fun, but I have never had any desire to go back. I pretty much have the same kind of access to NASCAR, but it doesn't appeal to me either. But, as the old Indian (am I allowed to say that?) Chief once said, "Mmm, it good everyone not think like me, because then everyone would want my squaw...."

Glenn, that video will give you all the idea you need about what it's like to be at a pylon when the gold racers come by. Turn the volume up!

I've never been, but have followed from the first time I learned of the races as a kid. I'll get there one day. Better make it sooner than later before they don't exist anymore.

Tim, I think the Ezells need to see that shot of Rare Bear. The most glaring thing to me, is the right wing torquing at the fold line.

The wings still actually fold by hand, no mechanism anymore. It oil cans a lot on the fuselage also.
