OK Boys and Girls riddle me this....night before last I flew the Cub and came in right at the sweetest post sunset time. Having my mind on video recently, I pulled out the C100, XA25, 1DX and the D810. I shot the same walk around clip with each camera, in the exact same light. The D810, hands down produced the most beautiful footage. So, splain to me why I would want to spend 5 to 8 grand on a video camera, when the D810 trumps them all so far? Am I missing some part of the equation? I realize that

Jim,

I suspect this is probably down to the Nikon having a bigger DR than the Canon DSLRs and the C100 needing to be properly colour graded etc in post to get the sort of finish you are looking for. I believe Canon use their own Codecs, not sure what Nikon use.

This might be a good alternative to the Zacuto rig if you went with the D810 option:

There was an episode of 'House' shot almost entirely on 5Dmk2s. The episode in question entailed the doctor's treatment of someone trapped in the basement of a collapsed building. The set they built for the show was tiny and realistic, and they were the only cameras that could fit in the enclosed space.

I was at the Oceana NAS for the Blue Angels show last week and it was the first time I saw air-air refuel demo and first time I captured vapor cones. The AF of the Nikon D610 struggled quite a bit to pick out planes with gray cloud in the background but once it locked on it was OK. Time to look for a different camera for airshows. . I had the Canon 5DIII before and it worked much better for me.

Thanks for looking. Any C&C will be welcome and appreciated. Cheers.

Nice vapor cone!

Here's one from the Evergreen museum in Oregon. Horribly distorted I know, but it (hopefully) gives an idea of how big the Spruce Goose really is. I stood as far back as I could to get a clean shot, but it is what it is.

I take it your locals aren't friendly?

Our lot have muttered about copyright on occasion (when I've been hauling a big Canon) but they don't bat an eye at the little Olympus.

Thanks Mark Redrock Micro is about 20 minutes from my house. I've found that RRM products are nice, but not nearly a adaptable as Zacuto. When you get down to it, there isn't much price difference either.

makes me glad for the USAF Museum's policy, which welcomes cameras, tripods, flashes, photographers... for just about everything. There have been a few exhibits of someone's photography that had a sign that said cameras forbidden, but those were temporary exhibits. Heading there hopefully, in the morning, to get the WWI action.

Showed up at Waco airshow at 6:45am...got the Bonanza ready to rock, after some typical airshow challenges of shuffling aircraft around due to always need the plane parked farthest in the back out first, etc....we finally launched at 0830. Great flight, great flying, great day, 840 pictures taken.

Finally get home to download cards and notice when I put the card in the computer that those 840 D800 files are only 4 gig. HMMMM.....well i shot the whole f'n flight on small jpeg! arghhhh.....(after my very unsuccessful sensor cleaning last night setting it to jpg small for my test shots)

3 megapixel sucks!
