HaHaHa!! You think government is capable of learning a lesson. The last conflict we fought without political restrictions was…hmm, I'm not that old (and I am old).
I'm no fan of war, certainly not the most recent "red line" debacle, and in retrospect, a lot of what went on the last 10 years didn't need to, it has been at great cost, much greater than the money spent. What we do need to learn in America is that if there's a just reason for a war, then fight it like it's a "war", actually win it, and come home. The world might respect us more, forget liking us, that obviously isn't going to happen, accept it, defend your turf and go on. The world doesn't like Russia, but when they say something, people listen. Problem is the people drawing red lines don't go, our best and bravest do, but the policies are made by jerks that go to the local DC watering hole at 4:30 every day, not a tent in the muck or sand. T'was forever thus, and probably forever will be. Ah for a "statesman", someone motivated by right and common sense, surely we could come together as a country and get behind that........on second thought, I doubt it.
